It's pretty unlikely - so many custom runs, group buys, etc. Makes it impractical to aggregate any kind of reliable pricing.

Your post not only referenced piracy, but it also conveyed feedback in a particularly impolite manner. If you have constructive feedback you'd like to share on builds, fantastic. But don't attack a user just because you don't like their choice of parts.

You linked to a key reseller. We don't allow those here. From our user code of conduct:

No key resellers. There are many key resellers available, some made popular by people on youtube. These are not permitted on the site. Similar to piracy - recommending or implying their use as an option is not allowed.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Fix Best Buy Out Of Stock Readings"

  • 2 points

That’d be defaulting the unknown to out of stock. In normal situation a that’d hide a majority of valid prices. Also, there are some regions where only one or two of the retailers provide stock status.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Fix Best Buy Out Of Stock Readings"

  • 1 point

We could possibly. I think if you look at the broader picture it's less clear if that's the appropriate path.

Outside of COVID-19, the vast majority of unknown stock status products are actually in stock. What we're seeing now is not the norm, and isn't likely to persist long-term.

If we mark it as "unknown", we'll probably get confusion from people thinking that the retailer told us they don't know what the stock status is. Which in turn could reduce user confidence that if they bought from that retailer that it would be available and would actually ship on time.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Don't Include Out of Stock Items in Price?"

  • 2 points

The issue here is that we don't have stock status from Best Buy. That's why it's blank. When the retailer provides it, we'll list it. But when they don't, the best we can do is leave it blank. Since it's across all Best Buy listings, you can disable them from your retailer preferences if needed.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Fix Best Buy Out Of Stock Readings"

Currently we're not able to get data on Best Buy stock status. If the retailer provides it, we display it. However if they don't provide it, the best we can do is leave the stock status blank.

We moved offices and haven't set up the studio space in the new office yet. We initially waited to do some renovations, but the planning for that has taken a lot longer than we anticipated. We submitted plans to the city several weeks ago for permitting. Hopefully those go through soon (I've been told it usually takes about 6-8 weeks, maybe longer). Once permitting is done we'll start construction once we know we can do it safely given the COVID-19 situation. Rough estimate right now is that we may start having some videos out around the end of this year, but who knows what else 2020 will throw at us.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Request to reword the m.2 / SATA compatibility note"

We can try it, but realistically almost no one reads any of it.

If I put a warning in that say that a BIOS upgrade may be necessary, there are 100 posts of people asking why we said it is incompatible. If you put a "see notes below" I'd wager there's about a 3% chance people will actually read those notes. The rest make blanket assumptions on a few words.

You can literally put "X won't work because of reason Y" and get a dozen posts asking why X won't work?

The more text you put trying to clearly explain something, the less of a chance there is that people will read it.

It's just rule #1 of anything: No one reads anything.

Rule #2 is similar: No one reads anything.

Maybe we need an embedded TikTok video dance for each note / warning.

The sites that say how many uniques or page views we have are all estimates and are wildly inaccurate. We don't give that info out. We have a view from our own analytics, but it's not 100% perfect either (particularly after the GDPR went into effect).

There's a website out there that says this site is worth $85M. If you know anyone that would pay us that much for this site, please pass their info along...

I will say that I gave my mom a PCPartPicker shirt. She lives way, way in East Texas, like on the Texas/Louisiana border. Nearest town of 5,000 people is a 30 minute drive. Someone recognized the PCPP shirt and knew the site. That was pretty cool and made me feel like we've made it to a certain extent. :)

As told to me once by an employment lawyer (in the US): Whether they're unjust, illegal, or whatever, it doesn't really matter - you can still be sued for it either way. It doesn't matter if you're in the right. If you're lucky, your employer will be footing the legal bill for you. Otherwise it'd be on you to cover your representation. $$$
