yeah i'm def RMA-ing the card. But was looking at more of a discussion to see what ppl may think it may be. Bad memory or something?
It's still under warranty by evga, even though I bought it second hand. Won't be doing that again, regardless of the rep teh ebay seller has.
I will never buy used again, even though it was probably mostly bad luck:
Seller had great reputation and bought what seemed to be a great deal in December. "Excellent like new condition." The GPU seemed to be running hotter than it should, so i opened it up and it was absolutely filthy. Worked hard on it to get it cleaned up and apply thermal paste and it ran fine until recently where it always freezes up.
Never wanted to buy used in first place, but needed to upgrade and 2080's were awfully high considering only 8gb vram.
So if you have a choice, go new.
and yes, drivers are up to date.
Yeah i figured the LED's would require little more juice, which is why my goal was to have one fan for each plug in on gpu instead of having a splitter to plug into one. Thanks for the help!
Is there a difference between the two? They look the same to me.
good to know, thanks!.
Funny you say that because I'm selling my 1080ti sc2 because it's too loud to me.
It's common for FE to be at that temp. 84c is fine, and in fact it's designed to throttle so that it stays at that temp. If you want it to be lower you can by cranking up fans. Should give a little extra boost while adding noise.
Thought I'd never buy used, but didn't want to spend over 800 on a 2080 when I could buy a 1050ti sc2 for 550 used. So I went on ebay and made sure it was a card that had 30 day return policy.
It wasn't in the best shape, despite the description and user feedback. But I couldn't blame seller really since I had to wait for other parts to arrive before putting together and testing out. It seemed to be running warmer than it should have but a good cleaning and reapplying thermal paste did the trick.
Won't buy used again though unless I'm absolutely broke and if GPU prices remain a joke.
well, as long as it doesn't harm anything I might give it a shot. By the time I need to use them again (if ever)
Yeah its too bad. I'll spend a little more and get the ASUS 2080 OC
No one has had this happen? Or a fix? I'd like to keep the GPU but if a 750 card is giving me this much trouble i'm ready to return.
I'd tap it!
Do you know where I might start with my current 4.7? I'm guessing you up the voltage in small incriments and stress test to see if it's stable.
that's great info! Overclocking is addictive. I should be happy with 4.7 but now i want to push further lol, esp after you wrote this.
2x 140mm fans intake 1000rpm top around 800
2x 120mm fans for exhaust in back. One 1000 rpm other non pwm 450rpm on top of case.
Thanks! I have the voltage on auto for now. When I have time I'll see if it's worth messing with to get it even cooler. (Still learning though)
yeah i think i'm set for a while. Only reason why I would delid would be in the future when I want to see if i can get 5 or more. Thanks for the help!
yeah you're right by the way in regards to prime. Tried some CPU intensive games and max was 62 C
Good to know. It's my first overclock attempt and while it's a safe easy overclock for now, still can get stressful lol.
it did....but if i use the 2 seperate that means you have a pair of 6/8 pins dangling from each one.
doh...alright. Looks ugly as hell if i use the two that came with psu since I'll have 2 pairs of 8 pins flopping around so time to invest in some on amazon I guess.
I always use DDU when installing new GPU.
Yeah...again don't think it's right having to fix it for them when paying that much.
I ask because with my 1080ti i had ZERO issues with apex. Then with the 2080 it's lagging like crazy and crashing Rolled back drivers to what you prob have but still it almost freezes for split seconds routinely then back to usual.
Are you getting this intermittent lag with apex on the 2080? I rolled back to the same drivers you probably did and it seems very routine that there's a spit second lag taking place ever few seconds and it's very annoying.
Looks like it's a known problem. Not really a problem but minor annoyance.
thanks, I was going to try a pastic card. Wasn't sure how fragile the memory is and such. Don't want to ruin the 1080ti
Well, the only answer is that the 8gb ram in 2080 is faster than 11gb. I'm no expert but seems like once your out of ram, you're out. A shame they didn't include at least 11gb like the 1080 ti
yeah i bought for 709 on amazon. Currently it's on newegg for about 675 with coupon if i'm not mistaken.
That's the one I'm getting Tuesday. How loud is the coil whine? I'm returning mine if it has it
good o'l coil whine! What kind of 2080 did you get?
but seems like speed doesn't matter if you run out. Just trying to understand it.
Yeah i looked some up and noticed it uses less ram in youtube vids was curious to how that works.
yeah i have that I was just being cautious with the sound. Making sure a fan wasn't off balance and such
is it an EVGA? I don't overclock though the sc2 def. boosts itself. When fans are at 30% it's basically cooling down after a game.
yeah i get the general idea of it. I'm very cautious when it comes to this stuff.
I'm going to hold off on overclocking anwyays. I thought it might help with a particular game with studdering problems, but looks like it won't be fixed with that. The other games I play have no prob reaching frame rates I want at boost speeds at this point.
Good to know, I had that feeling so dind't want to try it heh
Oh, and what about the auto overlcock that's in the bios? Is that safe to try out?
i've been happy with boost speeds so far anyways (4300mhz on all cores). I'll see how far I can push it when I need to and don't mind going down the road of a delid.
woops, meant to post both that have PWM.
woops didn't see the sli.
What resolution you playing at? 1080p would be best.
yeah I'm using MSI right now to curve GPU fans. But what I'll look for is something that will curve case fans WITH the GPU temps.
However, there must be software that curves fans with GPU. Surprised I can't do that on my motherboard, but oh well.
Thanks. Only trouble was the GPU. Got on ebay with person that said, "like new, runs like new.." he had a great reputation, but this thing was dirty and loud until i cleaned it and reapplied thermal paste to GPU.
Thanks for the help! I did an experiment and cranked the two 140 fans in the front while GPU stress testing, and the impact was minimal, if at all. So for now, I simply have them at a constant 40% since it's not loud at all, i think it's around 800rpm. That seems to get enough hot air out of the case without being loud.
I may have already responded to you in a previous post but trying to update everyone - reapplied thermal paste and very satisfied with results. 77C is still there, but fans haven't reached past 48% yet. And this is under full load for extended period of time. Not the 75%-90% while I play a game. Good results!
Just did it, and love the results. Much quieter!
