No, I'm certain everything is plugged in correctly. Only the CPU fan and the psu fan will spin. The rest do nothing. No idea what chip and I looked through the motherboard booklet as well as the internet for answers and everything points to the bios being corrupt
Thanks :) ok, so I have everything ready to install Win10, but the USB that comes in the little box that has Win10 on it, is only pro and doesn't give me the option for home edition even though that's exactly what I bought :\ Also, the media creation tool seems to give me standard edition. Just shows "Windows 10" in the Edition box.
So now I'm not sure what to do without losing any files :\ I can't backup everything, but I did copy some things to my HDD.
So buying retail means I can transfer the OS as much as I like, but OEM locks it to a single motherboard?
I ended up buying Win10 Home Edition at best buy today for $120, then tax made it $132. Buying online seems cheaper for some reason :\ But I don't wanna wait a week + pay shipping just to save $20.
I've been using Win8.1 for years and I'm used to it.
I've decided to get Win10 at best buy because I just prefer a physical copy and I need an activation key.
I'll likely use a USB to install it, and just keep the disc in case I need to do a restore or something.
I forgot about the no sales tax thing with newegg. I believe only California and maybe 2 other states are charged tax.
I would prefer to use Linux, but I'm forced to use Windows or I can't play games :\ I only keep windows for games. I tried Zorin, but not for long because I couldn't use wifi. I have a Netgear A6100 adapter.
I've been using Win8.1 for years and I'm used to it. I've only heard bad things about Win10.
I know those very cheap keys aren't legit. My only option for a physical copy of windows is best buy about 40 minutes away. I'd rather use a physical copy than buy online, download, then something not work and I'm screwed out of my money.
I completely agree. So simple, but so effective.
For the school shootings: Metal detectors at every door or a few guards on campus to check for weapons. Also classes for ****** parents who don't know how to raise their own kids. I've seen a lot of ****** parents who just ignore them or even abuse/mistreat them.
Overall gun control: Guns don't kill people, people kill people. A gun is just a tool and they will kill each other in other ways, but a gun is easy and for cowards imo. Anyone can pull a trigger. Idk exactly what would work, as I haven't put a lot of thought into it, but I believe there is a rather simple solution to this problem.
Humanity's biggest flaw is probably stupidity. Can't fix stupid, but you can numb it with a 2x4.
That's good. I guess you'll be fine for a while, but I would get an i5 later when you can
Well I'm quite certain that the CPU will be a huge bottleneck depending on the game. The latest games use 4 cores I think, though GTA 5 should run fine. I saw someone play it with a G3258 so... hmm... maybe not a huge bottleneck, but I think you'll notice it sometimes. Should be decent for a while, but I would definitely upgrade the CPU asap. 8GB RAM is okay (I have 8 myself and no issues with anything yet)
So you only bought the 1060 so far? If so, what's your budget for the rest? And what do you need?
What is it gonna be used for? We can't really give opinions without knowing some details including: part list (given), purpose, budget and requirements/anything already purchased.
Yeah, I was gonna check exactly how much was gonna be deleted next time, then check the free space again to confirm if it's accurate or not.
I thought HDD's only lasted about 3yrs minimum to like 5 or 6? Either way, I need to backup my irreplaceable data :\ I can always just download games again, but I can't just replace personal info or pics.
I forgot how long the warranty lasts, but probably just a year I think, but possibly 3 or 5. I still make the mistake of throwing away the boxes and stuff :\ I need to remember to keep them just in case something goes wrong.
Thanks for the reply and tips~
Thanks for the link, and yeah windows shows the capacity is 932GB or so. I know it's because it's measured differently. Like 1,000KB/1,024KB = 1MB
Again, I'm not talking about a specific game. I uninstalled, then deleted the folder to be sure it's gone and double-checked my bin. I'm not the average user, I've been on steam for like 4 years and built and owned my PC for 2.5yrs now.
I'm not sure of the exact amount of data, it just seemed off by quite a bit.
I'm not talking about any particular game, and I already said I keep my bin emptied.
Well, this drive is only for game storage. My OS is on a SSD. Samsung 850 EVO 250GB. I never once had any OS on my HDD. System Restore doesn't have any files on my HDD
Using windows powershell, it found no issues. I could be wrong and maybe the space is accurate, but I doubt it. I don't wanna wipe it because I have so many things installed, backed up and no way to completely backup my data.
Thanks for the reply! I always keep my recycle bin emptied, so that's not it. I scanned it for errors and looks fine. Gonna try powershell now. I haven't tried that, just the common/usual scanning with the built-in windows stuff and CCleaner/Defraggler. I don't remember how I scanned it exactly...
Thanks, I may need to do that temporarily so I can download files I might need
Root user is like an admin? I'm new to Linux, but would like to eventually dump windows at least as primary OS. Basically only using it to game and linux for everything else. Thought about using a KVM too though.
Wait, can I run Zorin through a VM for access to the internet? or would I still not have internet?
Thanks, I'll try this and report back the results.
I honestly can't thank you enough for your support! :)
oh, I'm certain my motherboard uses UEFI and I do have a EFI partition
Okay, so: I don't need to make a new EFI partition, just mark the partition in Zorin (not sure how since I'm new to Linux, but honestly just wanna move to it.) then DON'T format it and should be done.
okay, thanks :) I doubt I will have any bottleneck.
Sounds like I will stick to ext4 until btrfs is fully finished and polished. Thanks for the info :)
But do I setup the EFI partition before or after installing Zorin? I'm guessing before... but how do I assign Zorin to work with the new EFI partition?
Is it still considered dual-booting if I choose my OS when I start up my PC? I don't wanna waste resources on both OS's since I don't have very good hardware yet. I may do that later when I have an i7, 16GB of RAM and a RX 480 8GB.
Is there any reason to choose ext4 over btrfs or vice versa? I was hoping to choose NTFS for everything, but didn't see the option and I'm guessing Linux is best with ext4.
I greatly appreciate your help! :D Now, how else can I mount it? Before you told me to just use / to make it the root, I had no idea what to put there. I guess just / is best? I have 8GB and generally don't do much multi-tasking other than a few tabs in google chrome, discord and steam. That's about all I have open at all times including games as well.
So, partition of 50GB, then maybe 4GB more for swap files to assist with RAM. I should be good to go now once I set the partition, install Zorin etc?
Thanks :) Windows 8.1 Pro x64 is already installed. I'm just not sure how to install Zorin now. Don't I just need to make a new partition for it? I'm about to set aside 50GB for Zorin
I meant Zorin 12.2 and not 18.2. I was thinking of Linux Mint when I typed the title.
Yes, I built it about a year ago or year and a half. Now I just need to make a partition for Zorin OS 12.2 x64 which is based on debian ubuntu. I currently have Windows 8.1 Pro x64 Build 9600 and I want to use both OS's, though Windows exclusively for gaming since Linux/Zorin don't have perfect support for games. I thought about doing/using a KVM as well. (KVM = Kernel-based Virtual Machine)

I hope this helps :)
Awesome :D I also noticed even when I play, the files aren't easily fragmented at all. I guess it's just a very good HDD. Thanks for the reply :)
Basically external is like a portable drive. You could look at it as a larger, more expensive USB stick. I'd just go with a USB stick personally.
Yes, should be.
The case and video card. Even a 380X or 480 would run everything very well. Though not on the highest settings :/

I have a R7 370 4GB and that case and I love it. No problem with cable management and the 370 surprised me with how well it does. Fallout 4 runs on high settings :) Maxed textures, high shadows, high shadow distance, medium godrays and well, most everything is high.
I'm dumb and blind. thanks for letting me know. I almost wasted $11 on 2 of them... (S&H included, so about $8.38)
I decided to use the stock cooler for now. thanks for reply
I haven't even seen the back until recently. I forgot I could take off the other side or I would have just put it on. Too late now though. I put on the stock cooler for now
Skylake is the latest and I don't think there will be any new ones for a while.
A google search gave me these: http://wccftech.com/intel-kaby-lake-q3-2016-cannonlake-2017/
Never heard of mono, but that's interesting. Thanks for the info.
oh wow :c I can't do that then. If I wasn't so broke right now, I'd give it to you, but I really need every cent atm. Sorry about that.
This should do very well for you. I didn't put in a case though because there's enough of the budget left to pick whatever you want.
