Big ups to you for having a clean, well-matched desk setup. You didn't go totally crazy and break the bank but you obviously got both value and the style you wanted, and that's what it's all about!

While I agree on all the points made here and below @aromachi, I'm not gonna knock the OP for making something with a specific visual appeal in mind and in a case he/she really wanted to build in. True, you could knock 1K off this without losing anything under the hood, but it ain't my money! You can always lean out on the next rebuild.

That sounds perfect great idea to hop on the secondhand market with the most sought after card of the past year. And sometimes some adhesive is what a build needs ;). You should see the WD HDD I have strapped into the 5.25" bay in my define R5 :3

Your trouble with the push pull arrangement on the front is because the R5 supports only the 140mm rad or the 140mm front mounted fans, not both.

I like the white color, I also have an R5 and monochrome is such an elegant solution to building in fractal design cases I think. Bit of a light graphics card for the rest of the hardware, I'm looking at your 850w PSU and wondering what it's for! However you didn't say "gaming build" anywhere so who am I to judge. +1

I only said something about the fans because I am actually Fractal Design's biggest... fan. (pun intended and not regretted). In particular their Venturi Series fans make everything better in life, if you're ever looking to step up your game I recommend replacing every fan with its FD Venturi Series equivalent. You will never go back.

Really nice man, something about the white case makes this feel unique and industrial to me. Great monitor and great build for your dad, something to be happy about.

I see why you wouldn't need to overclock the 4690K (your Dad probably would not see the difference) but I do agree with KOneJ about getting a decent cooler, doesn't need to be liquid but something like a Cryorig C7 or Noctua NH-L9i would be a big upgrade sonically and temp-wise.

If I remember correctly the R4 comes with two 140MM fans, that or perhaps one more really should be enough for this build as a mac daily driver, the NZXT fans look to me like they would just be adding noise. I apologize if I'm wrong and in fact you just have the three. Also it's a small thing, but your Kingston RAM is listed as Black but is red in your pictures.

XB270H (or HU) is a TN Film, 1ms, 144Hz G-Sync enabled monitor, MX279H is an IPS, 5ms, 60Hz non Adaptive-sync monitor.

Pretty much the only other available model according to PCPP with this feature set at 1080p is the 24" Acer XB240H, at around $100 less MSRP.

If each stick works individually in each dimm then it is indeed an issue of compatibility when using both sets. :(.

At least you know everything works! It's still a solid build. RAM disk with the extra set?? :D

Love the all-out build. I'm eyeballing your SSD storage drive I'm saving for one of those. I run 5820K w/ 980ti EVGA SC+.

Methinks your issues with RAM detection are from your purchasing of two 2-stick sets instead of one 4-stick set. XMP profiles built into the RAM need to be programmed together as a set, one 4-channel set is not the same as two 2-channel sets and this might be the problem. As I understand it they can technically still work with two sets but the issues you're having may be simply be related to this even if you shouldn't have trouble.

Live and learn :)

I think that's a great idea, they look very finely crafted and E22/ Lutro0 combs are IMHO difficult to get and very expensive.

Where can I get cable combs like those? Your build is beautiful and impressive, but those cable combs... I must has these.

Also my R9 295x2 cowers before the might of your PSU.
