Once is was stable enough I did. It didn't help my problems with nmve drives. I've disabled nvme drives in the bios it has not crashed since. I have another Asus Strix B450-F on the way..
Nice. You really need a fan on the back.
AMD's software shows 180w at 100% utilization. So 30% more power than my RX480 for about 30% more performance. Yeah it's a power hog. I don't really care.
My 480 in my rig pulls about 130 watts. The 590 is pretty much the same thing. Could it really pull that much more? I haven't benched it. Power is cheap here.
It is to me. I already have a Strix Z270G mobo, a Nactua NU-12P and a i5 6500. But I just bought something better anyway.
They sold over 50 of them on just ebay today. Not that the 7350K is better than the 6500 but that 6500 has it's rightful place in Tiny. https://pcpartpicker.com/b/TZbj4D
If it was $150 I'd have one.
That's a lot of video card for 1080p.
I can set it to 102.9, but not 103. I'm not sure you can see this yet (moderation pending) https://pcpartpicker.com/b/zTw6Mp
I'm able to bump the BCLK a little with my Strix Z270G, enough for another 100mhz out of my 6500.
No problems at all. I put my GTX 970 in it for few days and could not tell any difference . I found Edge streams video better than Chrome. For some reason Chrome seems to buffer a lot. Not only that but the sound quality seems better.
Sorry, I'm old. Still true though. http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2458324
Skylake i3/z170 could pwn this with a stock cooler and a 500w PSU. I up voted it because I like it overall.
Well you definitely left room for improvement with everything except maybe the case, cooler and OS.
That looks a lot better. Still $225 for that mobo/cpu/hsf seem a bit too pricey to me.
The QVL is not hard to find. http://us.msi.com/file/test_report/TR10_3193.pdf
What keeps the cpu power wires from hitting the fan? You should run that up the back side of the case.
Just over 1.4. I upgraded Windows 7 to 10 with it at the same voltage but at 4.4 ghz. That is how the mobo auto set it it when I selected selected 4.4 ghz non-z oc. After windows 10 was installed I pushed it up to 4.6 with A-tuning utility. I don't run it there now. That was just to see how well it could. I ran some benchmarks but no crazy stability tests. Temps were not so bad running cenebench at under 60c. I had read that you could not upgrade to 10 overclocked. I had to flash it to an older BIOS just to get the settings but the upgrade went fine, that is until I woke it up from sleep the next morning. It was running 3.2 again. I renamed GenuineIntel.dll, rebooted and it ran overclocked again.
He was complaining about games stalling with the Pentium. He got a i5 for Christmas.
I really don't get spending nearly $300 on a mobo and getting a gtx 960. A hundred less there and you could have had a 970 and still have a very nice mobo with the same overclock.
Currently upgraded to a i5 4560S ($140 off ebay) and another stick of the same RAM. He was having some stalling issues with some games.
Finally finished. It did Firestrike 8100, the Intel 530 was 825. Now It's time for some games. I'm not getting Fallout 4 because my kids already have it on the xbone.
I'm either going to get the Asus itx 970 or the Zotac and a sfx psu so it will fit. The cost is about that same. I can use another psu. I took this Antec out of my old rig. I should have the money for it this week.
That is the one I leaning towards.
It's really only for lap tops and all in ones anyway.
There will be Iris pro skylakes and it will be more powerful than broadwell's.
I only plan on spending around $300.
Non-K's come with a HSF.
Yeah he likes it. Now I'm seriously looking into getting him an i5 and a 8gig kit of faster ram
As I recall the overclock was as simple as 1.2 Vcore and the multiplier set to 40. Some CPUs may need more Vcore to be stable.
They are molex connectors. They are slow and quiet. I've noticed the front 200mm not start a few times.
Can't help but notice you have some DDR3 listed and that mobo is DDR2. I actually still have that board in my rig with a moded LGA 771 Xeon 5440. I also noticed you have two different sets of DDR2. If it's not POSTing in dual channel mode you should put one set in the first green slot and first orange slot, the other set should be in the second green slot and the second orange slot. They messed up on the color scheme.
What are you doing with your 970? It should run 1440p just fine.
They are old but still function perfectly. They weren't expensive when I bought them either. Good deals happen.
It's wider than a real mini ITX. The PCI-E x16 is placed on the edge like one but it's the distance of one slot further out. It probably could fit in a mini ITX case that works with dual slot video cards but you could only have a single slot cooler on the video card.
Good job there. One thing though, it's better to populate that first DIMM slot by the CPU. The CPU cooler could pack it full of dust otherwise. But then I live in the desert and my rigs can get pretty gross.
If I did it now it would only be for aesthetics ( green sticker would be cool.) It's really quite snappy for it's current use. No one has experienced any lagging. It doesn't make much noise either. This mobo probably can't OC an i5 enough to need one. It would be fun to find out though.
It was around 60c running prime 95. That's with 1.1v Vcore in set in BIOS but CPUz reads 1.2v.
Edited the description, parts list and added more photos. Thanks for the comments. Time to install some games and see how well that dual core can run them.
I made this for one of my sons.
No, it's not my first build (just the first on pcpartpicker.). It's my second Haswell rig. The first Haswell rig was a Christmas present for my oldest son a few years ago. He graduates this year and is going into the Navy. It's a 4670K and r9 280. The mouse and keyboard in this were his The first computer I put together was in 1988. It had a 8086 processor.
I have some hard drives around. I'll take out an old Maxter 500 gb from my rig and put it in there soon. I also want to get another stick of RAM for him. I wanted to keep the cost under $300 for this but with the headset it with a little over.
