    from completed build DA2 Toaster

The Streacom DA2 looks nice, but is pretty challenging to air-cool.

    Good Stuff

    • The case looks nice
    • The modular rails system is fun
    • Accommodates large CPU coolers
    • Accommodates full length GPUs

    Problems

    • The side panels are badly designed - the holes are spaced too far apart, are too small, and are inset too much
    • The side panel dust filter restricts airflow in combination with the poor panel hole design
    • The top and bottom dust filter enclosures block too much airflow
    • Side mounted exhaust case fans sit too far from the side panels, so hot air bounces back into the case
    • The bottom dust filter blocks too much airflow to the GPU

    Annoyances

    • The GPU backplate cutouts are too small - this partially blocks access to the GPU display ports with some cards like the Nvidia RTX 20X0 Founders Edition cards. Sometimes the DP cable sheath touches the cutout and the machine refuses to boot.
    • The PSU mount conflicts with the power switch on the Corsair SF750 SFX PSU. Workaround: use washers

    Considerations

    • The CPU cooler direction pretty much has to be left-to-right (rear of case as intake) - otherwise the CPU cooler will draw in hot air from the GPU
    • Side panels pretty much have to be exhausts - due to above and also because there is no front intake

    Workarounds

    • Mount the PSU in the centre of the rail so that two case exhaust fans can be mounted on the side panels on either side of it. This means no HDDs etc.
    • Suspend two 140mm exhausting side fans using elastic cord so that the fans sit further out and are flush with the side panels - this stops the hot air bouncing off the panels back into the case and moves the fans further away from the PSU
    • Don't use the side panel dust filter
    • Remove the bottom dust filter enclosure to improve air flow to the GPU. Note: remove just the enclosure, not the filter itself
    • Use reasonably aggressive fan curves for the CPU, GPU and case fans - especially the case fans

    Solutions for DA3

    Side Panel Improvements

    • More holes, possibly bigger, closer together
    • Cheese grater area should be expanded so that it lines up with the inside of the case

    Rail Improvements

    • Provide rails that are not inset (perfectly straight) so that case fans can be mounted closer to the side panels
    • Fix the PSU mount so that it works with the Corsair SF750 SFX PSU

    Backplate Improvements

    • Increase the size of the backplate GPU cutouts to accommodate FE cards
    • The backplate could have more holes for better intake
