Loving this card so far
Its sexy , and currently (one of) the most advanced graphics card on the planet. In person operating its not unreasonably loud , is nice to see a visual fan off indicator.
I think this card with a 5100-5500 Firestrike ultra benchmark (depending on overclocking options) performs in realtime just good enough to be considered a "4k graphics card". Although id say the 1080ti version of this that will eventually come out will truly be the 4k version. i imagine fallout 4 i wont be getting 60fps with max settings on a 4k resolution. Probably around a medium setting.
heres what i can say:
playing MechWarrior online which would probably be considered a moderately demanding online multiplayer game , at maxed settings on 4k resolution it gets 70 fps.
the game plays beautifully and stable on my 4k 60hz monitor at 60fps :)
If you wanna say you have one of the first "4k gaming graphics cards" ever , go buy this now!
four of five stars because of its insane price right now.....
This thing is pretty large and in charge. It fits snug in my case so make sure you get your measurements down if you are using a smaller case. Kicks the tush for performance, I'm running 1440p 144hz, so I was happy with my choice.
However I am a bit concerned with the RGB lighting on the logo, it just cycles through the spectrum and the "GeForce Experience" programs RGB colour control does not work to control the colours. My friend has an EVGA 1070 and his is compatible with the colour control program. I think this Gigabyte model is not yet compatible with the colour control, hopefully they release an update. THUS 4 STARS.
Great card with outstanding air cooling. I utilized the Gigabyte software for fan RPMs and overclocking. Adjusted the fan curve as I do care about noise. With fans at 100% over 55C, I have yet to see it go over 65C under load during benchmarks. So far I've gotten a +140 MHz OC on the GPU and +600MHz on the memory.
when i first got this card in, it had insane coil whine while playing doom, not constant but enough to piss me off lol, i have no clue how but the coil whine is no more, the temps are nice, its crazy powerful for a number of different applications. The only problem with this card is the software you need to use the led's, when using this software i have to reset my fan profile everytime i reset my computer.
Out of this world. 'Nough said.
I was supposed to get the EVGA FTW GTX 1070 card but changed my mind and decided to go for the 1080. This was one of the cheapest and decent 1080 cards i could find. I have read numerous reports of people having coil wind noises from the card but so far i have not heard any unwanted noise from my card. Infact it is super quiet and the GPU temps are not too high either. I have been playing Total war Warhammer mostly and love the FPS and the graphics overall. Hoping to get another G1 gaming card for a SLI configuration someday in the future.
UPDATE AFTER 2 WEEKS: I loved the card for the first 2 weeks of usage but now am hating it. The card worked fine, no sound issues or anything like that. However for the past couple of days , after about 10 mins after i power up my computer, 2 of the 3 fans on my card will start runnign at high speed while the third one doesnt spin at all. The 2 fans that run are running at crazy high speeds and is super loud. The first time i heard the sound , i thought that it was my CPU fans or one of my system fans making the noise but i was wrong and it was the graphics card fans. I have the latest driver and the latest bios version installed ( tried reinstalling them both). The GPU temperatures are not high at all (25 deg C when the 2 out of 3 fans start running like crazy). I have the NVIDIA xtreme graphics software installed. I tried manually controlling the speed but it wouldnt respond. It works the very first time you power up your system and try manually setting the speed of the fan but once the fans start spinning they just go and wont stop and will keep running at the highest speed ( by fans i mean just the 2. The third one doesnt spin at all ). I tried everything i can possibly think of , reinstalling the xtreme software, using MSi afterburner etc etc but i still cant fix the damn thing.
I finally gave up and decidded to create a ticket with Gigabyte and created a ticket with gigabyte but it has been 48 hours and still no response. I then gave them a call and a lady in California ( who wasnt very keen to help ) answered and informed me that the they can take the card back and look at it but i will have to pay for one side shipping to. She said that i should contact my original seller as it hasnt been 30 days since i bought the item. I figured she was just trying to push me off the phone. She even said that the RMA process usually takes very long and that she wouldnt recommend it. Long story short, i am now in the process of sending the item back to jet.com and unfortunately for me i opted for no free returns when i bought the item, which means i will have to pay 30 odd dollars before i get a refund. I guess i just got unlucky with a bad card but i figured i should share my experience with you guys.
I have lowered the star rating for this card to 2 from my original 5. I wanted to give it a 1 star rating but i am going to give it the benefit of doubt and say that i was unlucky and got a faulty card and it is not a general issue. However i would give the customer service lady of Gigabyte in California a 0 out of 5. just so that you guys get an idea.
In spite of living in the shadow of more popular vendors like EVGA and ASUS, this too is a very solid card. It reportedly runs a little cooler than most factory OC'd 1080s, which made it a good pick for my Mini-ITX build.
It performs very well right out of the box but can still reach a decent overclock with ease. Using MSI afterburner, I'm able to hit around 1950 MHz core / 5375 MHz (effective) memory at 108% power without having to mess with the voltage/frequency curve.
In the tight confines of my small case, 25C ambient, and 80% fan speed, temperatures stay in the low 70s or lower under stress testing loads. That said, the fans get a bit noisy above 60-70%. There's also a small amount of coil whine, but it only shows up under the heaviest of loads and gets drowned out by the fans.
Incredible card. Overpriced but absolutely brilliant in AAA titles and runs Arma 3 at 70FPS on Ultra!
Awesome. It fits really well in Core v1 case and performance are better than the founders edition. Moreover, it's quiet on desktop. It's obviously different when you launch games like Ark ;)
