My suggestion... Save up for another R9 290X and then go crossfire in a couple months or hold off for an R9 295x2.

+1 on this I think.

I might just leave the 1tb and get a 250gb ssd to be getting on with but the other way is more sensible for the long term.

Pros: essentially and i7 chip so turbo and hyperthreading (8 threads), no help in games but great for most other things

970s in SLi for a whole chunk more gaming performance (not that you need it for that monitor)

Better PSU

Middles: SSD only but bigger

cons: cheaper case but there are nice budget cases around

Its all a bit unnecessary for 1080p but will make big improvements as resolution climbs.

1080p for 980/970-SLI ..... mmmh just no.

  • 56 months ago
  • 1 point

Why not? It's not like the 980 outputs 200FPS for modern games at ultra settings/1080p. The Witcher 3 looks like it's going to be a challenge and I'm sure you'll be glad to have that GPU around (if you can afford it of course).

So you cannot play games, If they are not set on the highest highest settings?..... maybe yeah, it's just a personal preference, but I am sure, 1440p with tweaked settings is far better than 1080p at the highest :}

It's over a $100 over budget.
