Windows 10 ISO file

I'm new to PC building, so I was looking how to get windows 10 for a PC and on here it says it costs $100, but on Microsoft it seemed like using the installation media thing would just download it for free. Is the installation media something else, or is it actually that easy?

What you pay $100 for is the activation key. You can download and install for free, and run without activating, but that carries some restrictions. I don't know what exactly because I haven't tried it (and don't use Windows much).
