Feedback on Photo Shop Laptop

My sister is in college and has been looking for a new laptop for Adobe illustrator and photoshop. I got recommended the Asus Vivobook 15 and I was wondering if it would work or if I really need to spend more.

I would not buy that laptop for any purpose.

  1. Tiny SSD - not much room for software installs and bloat over the life of the laptop.

  2. Uses a spinning hard drive for storage, likely a SMR drive. Horrible performance and dramatic reduction in battery life as these add several watts of continuous power drain to keep spinning.

  3. MicroSD card reader? Who uses that? Look for something with an SD card reader.

  4. Windows Home - No Bitlocker Security. No group policy access. Limited user/computer control management utilities. More analytics data and adware.

  5. Narrow keys on number pad... ? Not sure if this is a good compromise or not... have to think about that.

  6. USB-C port does not appear to support displayport alternate modes or charging. No "docking" through USB-C support.

  7. Only 8GB RAM and that's shared between the CPU and GPU - going to be VERY limiting in adobe applications.

Spend more.

I've been finding really good deals on HP ProBook and Zbook series laptops on Amazon lately for folks at work. These are very full featured, often have thunderbolt, SD card readers, 16-32GB RAM, 500GB or larger PCIE NVME storage, FAST quad cores (like the 8565U), Windows Pro, Some are equipped with discrete graphics like quadro P600/1000 series or Radeon Pro WX 3200 - this would be a good idea for best results in photoshop and other image manipulation and drawing software.

I found a HP ZBook 15u G6 Laptop for 1,159 USD. Is that a good deal or do I need to look more.

That's a reasonable deal...

Here's one with twice as much RAM and 4 X as much SSD space for $1350:
