AMD or Intel for Second PC Build

Hi everyone,

I am considering the Ryzen 3 3900x or 3950x or the Intel i9 9900k. I will be using my PC for a cybersecurity / digital forensics lab and I do a lot of gaming. Thanks for the assistance!

I would suggest building rig with a Ryzen 5 3600 on a B450 MAX board for your gaming rig, then use the money saved to put towards a homelab setup to do your cybersecurity/forensics work. Get some used server gear to tinker on for this. A 2U server with a couple 6 core Bridge architecture CPU's, 64-128GB RAM, maybe some SSD's and hard drives. Maybe something that includes 4+ Ethernet ports so you can create various networks, host VM's, virtualize a multi-spoke firewall, etc.

Get whatever is cheapest they will all work well for gaming. Factor in net cost - Mobo Ram CPU. Saving more here equals more for a GPU.

For gaming only I doubt there is much difference between the CPUs unless you're really into gaming. But for cybersecurity type work and a "lab", does that mean you may want to have virtualized environments to run tests against? In that case go with the higher core 3950x perhaps?

It will be virtualization environments and gaming.
