$2000 Budget - Gaming/VR Capable Computer?

Hi all -

Looking to get some recommendations from folks who might know more about the gaming/VR side of things.

Budget: $2000

Location: US (close to a MicroCenter, as well)

Use: Gaming/VR

No peripherals needed (already good on monitor, mouse, keyboard)

OS: Windows 10 Pro

I prefer an ATX Mid Tower size case.

Broad strokes, I'm trying to find out if I should go Intel or AMD for CPU and trying to determine what level of GPU I need. My previous builds have always been Intel, but I've heard a lot about the new Ryzens being very good value for the money. Is one better than the other for VR?

The goal would be to get an RTX 2070 or 2080 for GPU. I'd love to hear if the 2080 is worth the extra $ for VR future-proofing.

For RAM, I'm thinking 16GB is enough? My last build was for a video editing machine, so I went with 32GB for that one, but didn't know if you get diminishing returns past 16GB with gaming/VR.

Any suggestions are welcome!

Something like this would be sufficient. I don't know if you wanted RGB but that would be extra money.

I've used most of the parts used in this list and I can vouch for their quality.

The D15S is better than the D15 because it has an offset heat spreader so that all graphics cards, and RAM is compatible.

Everything is compatible. Wouldn't really make a difference.

Well pcpartpicker doesnt know if your first PCIE slot will be blocked by the d15 so better safe than sorry.

The Scythe Mugen 5 or Fuma is better since it looks better (no baby **** brown fans), its smaller, and it performs just as good

You might not even need the HDD

GPU grunt is the most important for VR, 1440p 90Hz, so this build will offer equivalent performance to intel VR wise and have thread overhead for demanding multi threaded games. Still have budget for aesthetic enhancements.
