IPS or TN for Casual FPS/RTS Gaming?

I have an older Asus 23" HDMI monitor that unfortunately has some gashes/cuts from when it was being transported during a LAN party. With that being said I would like to replace it with something better for my use case scenario.

In terms of games I enjoy playing Total War: Warhammer, Civilization V, Doom and TF2 for fun after work and would like the smoothest visual presentation I can find. My goal is a panel that will let me play without screen tearing as my current GPU (an RX 460) will do from time to time.

If it takes longer to save for, say, a 144Hz monitor I'll do it as long as it is reliable and built with quality in mind.

Save up for a benq 144hz, if you're fine with saving up a lot you can get yourself a benq 240hz which is the best monitor you can get on the market for fps gaming, just make sure your computer can get at least 240 fps average

Honestly i'd just go for the cheapest freesync monitor.
