Description

This rig was built for doing primarily GIS work. The software can be very graphically demanding and is fairly taxing on processor as well as memory. It's performed very well so far!

Part Reviews

Storage

I have had phenomenal luck with Sandisk SSD's. They always perform great and have definitely stood the test of time! Would highly recommend!

Storage

We use Seagate Constellation drives in all of our servers and I use them in any build I do for work. They are extremely reliable and definitely worth the little bit of extra cost up front!

Case

Cooler Master, in my opinion, makes some of the best cases on the market. I've used them on 3 different builds I've done and they are extremely easy to work in, as well as extremely efficient at keeping everything cool. On top of that, all of them look awesome!

Why z87 with xeon??

The Z87 chipset has some features other chipsets like the H87 and H81 don't have, beyond CPU overclocking. Sometimes it's hard to find all the features you need in a H81 or H87 board, as they can tend to be more budget-oriented (especially H81).

If you want more details, here's a quick reference:

Z87 is very similar to Z97, Z97 was only for Haswell refreshes proper compatibility. If the Xeon is compatible without Bios update why get a more expensive mobo with the same features

Try routing your CPU power cable through the back and then up to the top because it doesn't look too good coming up in front of everything like that. But other than that it looks fantastic man, great work :D 10/10

So, if you need memory for your program, is it speed or quantity that matters?

Why a Xeon? Those are made for servers, you really should need an i7 I'd think

1230 Is basically an i7 without IGPU, can't be OCED, and has ECC support. Saves alot of money

Is it this specific Xeon? Because normally as they're server chips they have more cores but they're weaker because of this, but this is a quad-core. So is it just the 1230?

Literally every person that knows anything about Tech has said that Xeon's are good for gaming too.
