Description

Here are just a few quick pictures; sorry I do not own a nice camera so hopefully the Galaxy S4 is good enough.

I got the FX-9370 for the same price as a FX-8350 at the time which is why I went with it. No regrets at all, it’s a wonderful processor. I have turbo-core turned off so it maxes out at 4.4 GHz. Running Prime95 I have never hit over 47c Max. I’m sure that I could run it at its normal clock speeds but so far I do not see a need too and I like things cool.

So this entire build is themed around the color blue, no special reasons just choose blue. Because of this I have become a huge Sapphire graphics card fan. Originally, I started with the Sapphire R9 270x. I have switch to the R9 290 Vapor-X, and it looks wonderful.

I also switched to 140mm top fans, replacing my AF120s for AF140s, and they are quite a bit louder then my 120mm fans. One question I have for those looking at my build, “Is there a fan controller that I can use to control three fans at once without using one of my cases 5.25 bays?” This is because I’m growing a bit tired of fan noise.

So far this machine has run buttery smooth. I have used it for mostly gaming (Max/Ultra everything and 50+ skyrim mods) and college work, a bit of over kill for that basic stuff.

Only one issues so far about three months in. I originally had a OCZ SSD…. Well it crashed 20 days after putting the OS on it, I sent it back and sold it, so I have replaced it with the M500.

I plan on a closed loop water-cooler, Crossfire, and three monitors at a desk when I finally move out. If I go crossfire, I'm most likely going to switch cases to something nicer like the Arc Midi or 450D.

If you have any questions just ask and I’ll get back to them at some point. Thanks for looking

*Update 9/6/2014

Purchasing of supplies for a new crossfire build has started. I got my eyes on a new case that I'm waiting for it to be released in the states. I have purchased a new HX1000i PSU and H105 Cooler. Several of the old part from this build are also moving to my brother's PC which will be a X4 860k with the old R9 270x. So two new builds by December of 2014.

*Update 10/2/2014

The system has been taken apart and applied to my new crossfire build. http://pcpartpicker.com/b/LkwV3C

Why does this have so many Downvotes? I like it!

Well it's also the fact that it's a AMD build. Intel worship is almost cult like. but i got it for $200 and i had a $25 rebate card at the time, so why the hell not.

Same thing goes for nvidia, people refuse to admit AMD has awesome Graphics Cards. +1 man this build is ***** solid

I have a few possible reasons. He chose a 9370 CPU. People just don't like the parts he chose.

I don't have a problem with this PC. As long as it works for you, great!

C'mon now people, this build is pretty great. I really hope it hasn't been down-voted because he chose an AMD. AMD CPUs are great. Coughsillyintelfanboyscough. Don't take the down-voting seriously, Wootang. The build is awesome. +1

Thank you so much. I've climbed up from -25 (+or- extra Intel fan downvotes I don't know about).

I don't see the problem with the build, or the fact that is has -23 votes. Da fuq? +1 from me :D

With all the down votes, I thought you had used a bad PSU or something. It's a really good build (would've been great if those prospectors didn't reduce amd graphics card supply so they can pan the internets for cryptocoins). What is the primary purpose for it if you don't mind my asking? Is it gaming, video editing, or taking over the world?

Just a gaming/school PC. Always been interested in building a PC just haven't pulled the trigger until now.

Yup right in the middle, it is a very old school cooler. I pick it mostly because it hid the fan.(which is a orange cougar fan, nice fan ... Odd color.)

I really like your build and plan on doing something similar myself for my first build in the next couple weeks. And by the way all you AMD haters out there, the new fastest supercomputer in the world right now uses AMD cpu's, it's called the Titan at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. +1 from me.

can u play battlefield 4 ultra setting on this pc............sorry pc noob here :-)

I don't have Battlefield 4, so I personally don't know (I'm not really into online FPS games). I have a friend who has R9 270x(s) in crossfire and he runs it at ultra at +70fps with Mantle turned on.

Crossfire 270x(s) are about equal to one R9 290.

So how does that Graphics Card preform? I'm thinking about getting it.

Like a dream. Runs really well. Doesn't get hot at all (by AMD R9 standards) nearly silent (I don't run it in the smart fan mode) and buttery smooth on ultra @ 1080p on all my games. Can't really give you any examples other then the benchmarks I've posted(22.9 min fps in Unigine Heaven only happened when it loaded between scenes, screen faded out and faded into another scene, for a unnoticeable amount of time. The lowest I saw the FPS hit was 45 in that)

nice sonos speakers and was the frame drop just really random or was it in a really difficult part of the benchmark

  • 1 point

Frame drop only happened when there was a seen change. The screen would fade to black at the end of one seen and fade out of black to start another. When the screen was fading in and out of black is when it would drop to sub 30 fps but as soon as if faded out it would be above 50 again.

no clue why it does that and includes it as part of the score but it never got much below 50 in the difficult part of the benchmark. so my lowest FPS came when the screen was black... weird.

Thanks for the comment, but it's a old Vizio sound-bar. I wish it was a Sonos but they are too pricey.

has the 9370 given you any problems with the ud5?

  • 1 point

only one.

I have under-clocked it because it's summer here now and the house is a lot hotter then it used to be. Well for some reason when it's under-clocked it restarts once right on boot up. no issues after start up.

I'm wondering, how much space do you have left between your gpu and the drive bays? I'm thinking of picking up a sapphire vapor-x r9 280x tri-x, which measures 308mm. Although some sites say it won't fit, it seems like you have plenty of space for your 305mm card.

In the Shinobi I got about a inch left, there are two pictures towards the end where you can see the gap between the 290 and the drive bays. Only if you mount a 3.5 drive directly across from the gpu it won't fit.

paint the shinobi's straps blue to make it look better!

I don't have it anymore. The entire build has been dismantled.

Thank you. Nice user name. I have a original Blastoise card framed above where my new computer desk is going. it's not going to be done until April however. Thanks Again.

+1 from me :) I do prefer Intel + Nvidia myself but I don't discriminate. My laptop has AMD in it, and there's no problem with it whatsoever. I'm ashamed to associate myself with the people who will downvote something just because it uses AMD... I promise you that not all of us are like that. Great build btw! May you be blessed with high FPS and love from lord Gaben
