Description

I do not game, this is one of my work machines. I use it for software development, which includes Machine Learning (hence GPUs) as well as high performance algorithms. However this machines sits in the middle of my home office and I wanted it to look reasonably good and somewhat cool, hence all the RGB lighting. Case was almost perfect for all the hardware with exception of PSU. Putting 1500W PSU in this case was a bit of a problem and required some modding, nothing major. My other older machine has four Maxwell Titan Xs. Two Titan X Pascal in this machine come within 25% of four Maxwell Titan Xs as far as performance. Cooler is EKWB Predator 360 and it's just enough to cool overclocked CPU and two GPUs (GPUs are not overclocked, otherwise cooler is a bit overwhelmed).

Your CPU cost more than my son's used car! Damn. Since this is for work how long do you think you will need to produce on it to pay it off? That's a heck of tax write-off!

I also have to confess that I want to get into gaming, it's just every time I try I really suck at it which is no fun at all. Maybe one day...

You should start out with easy games like: Club Penguin or Minesweeper!! If you do, please share your benchmarks!

I don't know if this can run Minesweeper.....

You should TOTALLY get into gaming. This beast can handle anything you throw at it. IDK what type of software you're developing that requires a pentacore processor.

Can you please tell me where in the world you found the Pascal Titan X's?

How is building in the Dark Base Pro and overall build quality? I thought I was one of the few who wanted to build in it. I will be making a PSU shroud for it though.

+1 for the build and deep learning.

Titan X Pascal are only made by Nvidia itself and only sold directly from their site: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/10series/titan-x-pascal Build quality of this case is unfortunately below average, I had problems trying to unscrew couple of screws which was a real pain. However flexibility of this case saved me, for example the ability to move MB down by a lot allowed installation of Predator on the top. I also suggest not to use more than 1200W PSU as putting a bigger one is a pain due to much bigger socket that all 1500W PSUs use.

I agree, this Predator is doing pretty well considering it's cooling 6950X overclocked to 4.3 GHz plus two Titan X Pascals. I was not sure if it was going to cut it but it's doing fine.

Would you mind sharing your CPU and GPU temps at idle and load? Also, do you feel like the pump in the predator could handle adding another radiator to the loop?

There goes 50th vote for this build, well done!

Most of my very high end machines I use for R&D purposes in Life Sciences. What exactly do you use this machine for? Whenever I see such machines I get quite inquisitive. I hope you get the RoI on it down the line...

edit: how is the case like? I'm planning to build a few more very high end ones during the holiday season.

I noticed how you mounted the EK-Predator with the fans inside the case even though the very top of the case could be used to house the fans, but that is simply not possible with EK-Predator and the Be Quit DARK BASE PRO 900 case. Given all that, my question is do you still have enough space below the EK-Predator for another set of three 25 mm thick fans? I'm planning a build using the same case and AIO but would really like to do a push-pull config.

This is so crazy. I just ordered the exact same parts am waiting for the 6950x to arrive to finish the build. Will post when complete but I even used same RAM and dark base pro case, Rampage V edition 10.

In addition to the 360 predator I got the Titan X pascal EKWB GPU block and backplate pre-filled. Only big difference is that I am using the Be Quiet Power Pro 11 1200W PSU.

I only have one Pascal though. I might buy another, is the second pascal on the same predator 360 loop?

Interesting! I’m planning on something similar actually as my main development machine. I’m working in comutational fluid dynamics though, not machine learning, but offload all the calculations to the GPUs. I also need double precision (and can’t afford a Quadro GP100!), so stuck with a Titan Z - which still beats my 1080Ti in double precision heavy workloads, and a 1070 for driving the screen and some of the smaller simulations. Got a 5960x at 4.0 (sometimes pushed to 4.4) but as that’s used mostly for post-processing and development phases (which are easier on the CPU before porting them to the GPU code) so I don’t really need to upgrade it quite yet.

Currently in a Corsair 750, but it’s getting tight and I want to add some bigger rads and redo my loop so moving to the Dark Base Pro. Surprised you are getting the CPU and 2 GPUs cool enough for high workloads on just that one 360 predator! I’m getting a bit toasty with a 360 and a 280 in my current case. Was good to get some inspiration! Nice wrok. :)

Based on my experience when using these GPUs for machine learning single Pascal GPU is about 50% faster than single Maxwell. I'm not sure what is the difference for gaming.

For gaming, the Pascal is about that much more powerful.

I believe the pascal is the best GPU on the market for its price. You could prob get like over 200-300 fps on 1080p gta v or something

  • 1 point

Pascal isn't the best for it's price on the market, considering price for performance the RX 480 may take that spot.

I first tried Corsair H115i. It worked but top CPU temperatures under load were too high, so I got the Predator. It cools pretty well, much better than Corsair but it's bulky. There are not many cases of this size it will fit.

I have 2 older machines with full custom loops. I guess this time I got a bit lazy and went with Predator.
