Description

A very cool friend built my first PC on a budget.

Then I decided to buy the GTX1080 when it came out, which ended up bottlenecking my old proc so I got the i7-6700k...then realized I needed a new mobo for it.... And then I fell further down the rabbit hole and figured I might as well buy a new case right ? Also, it would be a shame to only have 16gigs of RAM in such nice setup ! Oh and look at that shiny new Kraken cooler, let's grab that too. Now that a -30% Black Friday deal forced my hand on a second 1080, I think I'm finally done throwing money at this PC...for now.

The Phanteks case was pretty easy to work with especially for a 1st time

for a first build, overkill much? also you don't have an ssd so you probably should consider getting one of those.

Derp. HDD is leftover from the old build. Got 2 samsung SSDs that I forgot to add, a 128gigs for the OS and most played games and a 1TB for storage :)

Amazing build, but you're really using a 5400RPM hard drive?!? I would go out and buy a SSD immediately, even if it's only 250 or 500GB, it will change your life.

What i5 did you have that could possibly have bottlenecked the 1080?

Best first build I've ever seen, I recommend getting an SSD, +1

Just to further drive the point home, it is absolute lunacy to have 2 top of the line cards in SLI AND over 16gb of RAM without even having a solid state drive. Truly there are like hundreds of posts on Reddit buildapc asking if an SSD is worth it and the responses are ALWAYS overwhelmingly in favor. You will see a much greater increase in performance from adding an SSD than you would from your RAM increase or your 2nd GPU. Your price-performance ratio is going to be way way off until you add one. All that being said it looks incredibly well built, you picked your parts very well, excluding the lack of an SSD.

Nice very powerful rig but do you really need two gtx 1080's for 1440p gaming? You could get 60+ frames with a 1070. And also you probably could use an SSD.

What began as a budget build quickly EVOLVed (excuse the pun) into something ridiculous.

Same story over here, bud.

Quality build under the belt; check! All games maxed out; check! Max frame rates; check! SLI; check! Quality components; Check! Money left in your wallet; you had better check! Also there must be an addition problem with Euros because it just doesn't add up?

Just out of curiosity, are you using the 1 Slot Spacing EVGA SLI bridge?

  • 1 point

No, 3 slots! 1 slot was too short, pcie lanes were more spaced out than I thought

Great build man. I'm planning on getting the same case and cpu cooler. I was wondering if it was possible to put the radiator in the removable bracket on the top or if that only works for the fans?

only the fans i believe :/

Hey did you have any problems with clearance for the vengeance ram? it says the height for that ram is 49mm in height but phanteks shows 48mm clearance with a 140mm fans.

Not at all ! Now that you mention it & I look at the pictures it's a little tight but it fits (the radiator bracket is on rails so it can move a bit, must be it)

Any trouble getting the kraken to fit?

hey how many fans do you have on there, does the 2 gpu get too hot? i got the same case, i didn't get SLi cuz I'm afraid it doesn't have enough airflow

whats the temperature for the 2 GPUs, i got the same case and i didn't wanna run SLi cuz I'm afraid theres not enough airflow cuz is midtower case and not as many fans can go on it

The 2nd GPU runs maybe 5/6 degrees hotter than the other one yes but no issues so far
