This morning we received the good news that the GSkill Trident RGB software update had gone live with Asus Aura motherboards (just Z270 right now, no X99 yet) download link = http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/utils/Lighting_Control_10429.zip
We wanted to test things out and having a new MasterCase Pro 6 and MasterFan RGB just arrived made this the perfect time to have a play with everything at once and build something new :)
The motherboard we've used is special in the way that it has 2x RGB headers, we needed this as we've replaced usual 120mm fan on the Phanteks cooler with our new RGB fan leaving the second header free to connect the 1m strip lighting kit also. Using a low profile cooler in a case like this is completely unnecessary I know, it's just temporary :P Much like the power supply wise being a massive 850w EVGA, this is just for when I add a second GTX 1070 + change the CPU to a K series and do a custom waterloop :)
Chassis wise the MasterCasePro 6 is pretty cool, it's got a combination of magnets, clips and thumbscrew which makes pulling it apart pretty fun :P I couldn't fit the GTX 1070 inside at first with the HDD cage fitted but taking it out was as easy as two screws. The top IO for the chassis is a unique little flap bit, I'll add a pic to the end so you can see what I mean.
Looking at the box for the fan I thought it was going to be like the ThermalTake Riing but instead it had all the LED lights in the central point and clear blades that catch the light, when you look straight down at it the light hits the edges and has a little halo efffect :) It needs two cables (1x 4pin + 1xRGB header) to get going and here's a quick vid I took mid build when I turned everything on for the first time = https://www.instagram.com/p/BQ_gjpNADYk/?taken-by=goodgamingpc
In order to connect the LED strip lighting kit to the motherboard I use a little adaptor which is also available from Phanteks - this little 12v thing makes everything match up :)
The G.Skill Trident RGB DDR4 has 5 lighting zones and with the Aura software package you can customise each, I've added in a bunch of pics at the end to show some of the options and I'll add more as I keep playing with everything.
Lots of fun building this one, hope you like it and once I get the water cooled version planned out I'll upload a proper PC Part Picker with all that good stuff.
-> Hey Asus <- With so many LED devices within this PC it was too much for one screen within AURA, if you could add a "full screen mode" that would be pretty good, also it would be really nice if you could release it as an android app like Logitech ARX.
