Description

For this build simplicity was the key. I wanted a simple black and white theme for my new PC. This was build for gaming and multitasking with enough power to run the latest games and 3D software.

I really like the Asus Strix series so the asus rog strix x99 mobo and asus strix rog gtx 1080 were the core of my build. One problem a friend and I encountered was that the original plate of the 1080 was not compatible with the ek water block for the GPU, so we had to use just two screws to hold it in place and very small thermalpads to stop the vibration. The result was a very good looking watercooled GPU (Take that EK no $40 dollars for your simple plates :D)

My processor is the i7 6800k. I chose it because it's not that expensive for a 6 core processor and it works amazing both in games and multitasking. And with a little OC you have the same stock speed of the i7 6700k and with 2 extra cores for everything else.

For my ram I chose the corsair dominator series because they are very powerful and look amazing (I still need to grab some led plates for them)

I wanted some led illumination, that's why I chose the thermaltake riing led fans. They look very cool and their purpose is to illuminate my case at night. I used 5 120mm fans and another 140mm fan.

And for my cooling solution I just grabbed some EK custom parts and used white pastel fluid to keep the PC within my black and white theme. A friend of mine Ken helped with the design of the loop and the results were very rewarding. My phanteks luxe case was custom modified too with some acrilics to make my watercooling loop stand out.

And that's it guys I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Ok I've lost my jaw one to many times this week. This is like the....6th time I had to pick up my jaw off the floor.

Agreed. I've seen several builds this week that on their own, would be feature worthy.

See, yours diddnt have a custom loop. Yours had a wow factor of case modding.

Kidding of course

I love those fans too, do they look nice in person?

Very nice build! I really wanted to go with that gpu but ekwb said that the stock backplate wasn't supported. Should have went with my gut.

  • 1 point

It's not compatible but you can manage to lock it with just 2 screws and small thermalpads between the screws of the block or if you want you can modify the screw holes to match the ones of the ek block. It's such a waste of amazing design if you don't use the original strix plate

How is everyone so much braver about using water cooling than I am?! Like how did you even know what parts to buy! I am so astounded by the innate beauty of this machine. Hats off to you, sir.... :)

I think you might have just broken some unwritten law of ROG there, setting BOTH lights to WHITE??? What has this world come to??

Seriously though clean build, nice runs, sleek looks, black and white (no red) and man that backplate it looks great like that +1

This is exactly what I want to end up with when my build is complete.

Wish there were more/any EKWB parts for lower end GPU's as I dont think I will ever have need, reason, or resources for a 1080. 1060 6GB is doing just fine for me and what I do with it.

I'm also suprised to see no M.2 nvme in this amazing rig. Maybe in the future?

+1 for me just from pics before I even read anything or looked at the parts list.

Awesome! I thought that it is not possible to install the original back plate with the EK blocks ... have any tutorials to do it?

The backplate is not compatible but you can manage to get it in place with just 2 of the original screws and small thermalpads between the ek block screws and the plate.

Good luck with that motherboard. I've had two die on me and I'm currently waiting for a second replacement... It's definitely the purchase I regret the most in terms of tech/pc stuff. I hope this one is fine :)

  • 1 point

Have you checked everything else like home voltages, psu, etc 2 mobos dying on you is kinda suggesting is something else

  • 1 point

I wouldn't have thought it was home voltages since I've never had any electrical problems here etc. From what I can tell it's the motherboard, especially because of the way it stops working. I've been looking online and lot's of people have had Asus boards randomly die on them + other issues. More so than other brands such as gigigabyte and msi anyway. And all of my other components are fine so I doubt it's the psu but I guess I'll see what happens with this next motherboard...

It's a 360mm radiator and the best overclock is 4.5Hz in some cores and 4.2-4.3 using all cores

When you buy a non reference edition of a gpu there is no need to overclock the gpu they already come with an overclock done
