Description

I had a GTX 970 I didn't need anymore (due to having upgraded to GTX 1080 Ti). It seemed like it would not sell for a reasonable price, so I decided to build a PC around it and try to sell it that way.

This is what I came up with. It's already sold.

The customer came back to me later that he wants to use the PC for machine learning and maybe he should get a better GPU. So I took the GTX 970 back and used it in another build.

This is very decent and I would know. I've been using a i7-3770 for multiple years now.

Depending on the prices and deals you get, Ryzen 5 actually offers better price/performance and gets you on a recent platform, but Gen 3 I5's/i7's are great for recycling into modern budget builds.

I couldn't find a Ryzen alternative for that price. At least not where I live, not at the time I built this.

I paid $150 for the Motherboard + CPU + 8 GB RAM. Of course, all used.

I had that same Mobo/proc combo with a 1060, and I bought a PSU/case and sold it. Good times.

Yeah. I don't feel too confident selling a PC with some crappy old PSU either. I purchased a new PSU from a trusted brand for the PC to make it more reliable.
