Description

Welcome to my first build.

I use this PC for gaming mainly, but also everyday use. Went with the 9900k because why the **** not, I wanted to have the best experience possible. Z390 AORUS MASTER so I can keep my VRMs cool and not need to worry about the motherboard holding me back. Looks the part too. H150i to keep the beast cool, does a perfect job when gaming, no complaints at all, looks the part as well. 970 evo used as a boot drive and for all my programs and some games. 3TB drive for holding any media, photos, videos etc and games if needed. the 2 2.5" SSDs are also recycled from my old PC, used for games only. Went with the AORUS RAM kit because it was good value at the time and compliments the board nicely, and works in tandem with the RGB software. Went with the Design R6 case because it looks awesome and all reviews made it the right option for me. Went with the USB C model because it was practically the same price and thought why not. Power supply is nothing too special, went with the reliable EVGA SuperNOVA series, cant go wrong really.

Machine works perfectly, the build went great, booted up first time without any issues at all. Only thing is that the HDD LED connection for the case wasnt plugged in properly :)

LOVE the build my dude, one question; What type of desk is that and where did you get it?

Thanks! The desk is this one here: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/desks/desk-computer-desks/alex-linnmon-table-white-spr-59932698/

I went to the shop to get mine and chose the grey drawers, white table top and white pole/stand to keep structural integrity (maybe not needed)

Excellent, I've been looking for a decent desk (that's not an L or corner) for awhile and this one looks great.

Yeah its awesome, providing you have the space to fit it. Very good quality desk, all parts feel like a high quality product. I definitely recommend!

Why would you pair a 9900k with a 1070?

Building my first. I just purchased the same case and power supply, which is how I found your build.

I want 10Gb LAN and TB3 so I'm stuck waiting for the AORUS Xtreme or Designaire to come back in stock.

Are you still happy with the case and power supply?

Do you think there's enough room for the Noctua NH-15 with 2 140mm fans?

Case and power supply are awesome, no problems at all. The case is easy to work in, looks the part, high quality materials, just awesome. Power supply is awesome and comes with good packaging, plenty cables and should last a long time. No complaints at all. As for an NH-15, im not sure on the case/motherboard clearance for a cpu heatsink as i went with the h150i i didnt look it up, but i would think so!

The only minor issue with the case is taking the cover off the moduvent system on the top of the case. It is a bit fiddly to get off but once it is off (if you even need to take it off) you will be fine. Obviously if you have top mounted fans like mine, you will need to

Thanks for the 411. I’ll share my build results as the parts roll in.

Temps on the CPU and GPU?

GPU at around 70 under full load while gaming. CPU typically between 60-70 while gaming. I havent really done much vigorous testing on it, on cinebench it stays at around 65 while running

Really useful to see what you've built as it's similar to my current plan. I'm a bit out of practice so good to know I'm not too far off the mark.

Couple of quesitons for you......With this long radiator, would I be able to fit an optical drive into the case and second one, I thought these coolers came with thermal paste already applied - wondering why you used a different one?

With the 360mm rad at the front you cannot have an optical drive. I can't say for sure if you can fit an optical drive if you put the rad up top.

As for the thermal paste, the one pre applied isn't going to be the most effective and wanted the most out of my cooler. The one pre applied will be good to go though!

Anymore questions just ask dude!

Cheers, Dude. The optical drive isn't a show-stopper for sure - plenty of other ways to skin that cat. I worked in the tech sector (radio and telephone comms) for a long time - I'm more excited about building this machine than I have been about anything tech-related for a while.....I really must try to get out more :-)
