This build is configured mainly for high-performance workloads. I'm a software engineer and the 8 cores and 16 threads come in really handy when I'm running a CPU intensive program. It's also a gaming machine designed to push 60+ FPS at 1080p.

I think you should upgrade to a RX 580. It's the same price, and it's better

I actually was waiting for the Vega line to come out but since I got impatient after having to wait so long for Ryzen, I figured I would opt for the cheap 480 and upgrade to Vega (should it turn out good) next year.

The board has been great so far. BIOS updates have gone without a hitch. ASRock has tricked out the board of this price with some great stuff.

The case can be better. I presume that's why NZXT released the S340 Elite later but it gets the job done. There's not been much dust inside the case even though it lacks air filters on the top and front.

Well, your build looks nice and I hope you are enjoying with it. I've a few questions:

a) how does this board perform? I'm in two minds if should I go for X370 or this one. b) how does the OCing perform? c) any RAM scaling info is appreciated (pondering for 32 GB of two DIMMs).

Thank you. I'm enjoying my build a lot. Every day I spend a few minutes just staring through the side panel haha.

The board has been great so far. BIOS updates have gone without a hitch. ASRock has tricked out the board of this price with some great stuff. I wouldn't recommend getting an X370 unless you plan on doing SLI/Crossfire or need those extra PCIe lanes. My work doesn't entail much on the PCIe cards side so B350 is good enough in terms of lanes. Overclocking is stable so far. I've been quite reserved and just pushed it to 3.8GHz for now. Lastly, the latest BIOS update has brought support for more RAM brands and models. You can checkout the list on their site. Mine is running at the maximum clock now smoothly.

I appreciate your response. Just wondering, are you happy with that SSD PLUS model? I always bought Extreme Pro SSDs or Samsung Pros for workstation builds.

Well, I'm not yet clear on workstation X370 boards. There wasn't any problem for me on Intel side (ASUS WS series default choice).

Anyhow, I'm awaiting for better clarity on Ryzen vs Vega or ThreadRipper vs Vega options for building new workstations (non gaming). For gaming build, I've decided to go with R7 1700 and Vega Consumer GPU (planned it as holidays build).

The SSD Plus is not bad. Again, I think if you're not doing anything extremely I/O intensive, this disk is very capable and inexpensive.

IMO, you shouldn't get an X370 board unless you plan on doing SLI/Crossfire and/or use multiple PCI-e cards. B350 is more than enough.

For workstation, Threadripper should be a good flow if they keep up this momentum. The amount of lanes those pack are sure to be come in handy.

I used the same ssd as you but whenever I screw it in it stops working. Can you upload a photo of how you screwed in your drives?

Normal four screws at the bottom to attach it to the SSD plate on the case. If you're using right angle power connecters and/or sata cables, do check that because of the angle and the case design they can come off really easily.
