So, obviously we know there are microATX boards for the Threadripper series of CPUs, but I wanted the ultimate flexibility for upgrading RAM, to keep the "up to 128gb RAM" spec for this beast.

The whole ethos of this build is to keep it simple and small! I didn't want a really big case, nor a wall mountable one. I wanted something that was somewhat portable and minimal in my room.

When I saw the NZXT H500i, I really wanted it, because I was using this hunk of a case called ThermalTake View 71 TG back then, and it's a case to break your back every time you wanted to lift it up or move it.

Officially, the NZXT H500i does NOT support the eATX nature of the ASUS Zenith Extreme motherboard, however I have confirmed on this build that it looks top notch!

Introducing what I call my Baby Threadripper Beast! I use this computer for app development, spawning multiple instances of virtual machines for test benches and some mild gaming.

While building this rig, obviously you have to adapt to the official standard of the NZXT H500i spec, where it WILL NOT fit the eATX board by stock. FORTUNATELY, NZXT proudly allows the user to change the position of the "cable shroud bar" by moving it roughly 7cm to the right, with no adverse effects - as they have all the corresponding screw holes on the other side too (shown in one of my pics)!

Other than that, I really didn't have much of an issue with this rig. The whole rig does not use any storage moving parts, which was something I wanted because the original build I did was with a View 71 designed for multiple hard drives installed at the front...and that was a HUGE case, with no benefit to me.

This is very good to know for adding EATX boards in the H500i. Bitwit once tried to put this exact board into a Meshify C... Well, let's say it didn't go well.

YUP.

They modded the case for EATX by squishing the raised portion past the ATX board length that was meant for cable management... ON A BOAT.

Yeah, I was kind of tired of having to deal with eATX compatible cases, either they weren't my style or they were way too big. The H500i was a risk for me as I really wanted to retain that cable hiding bar there, and it ended up being a great investment

It's actually larger than the Taichi board I was eyeing, which means this should be the biggest one AFAIK!

this is awesome this is the board i originally wanted but was heartbroken to see the compatibility error. so installing this board mean just moving the bar over? holes are pre placed already, or i have to do this on my own? and does this affect how the cable management is done? are cables bent/squished/not fully hidden due to moving it over? i plan to do this anyway but would appreciate your experience already doing it.

Why is your one ram module not lit up?

The animation for the RAM is that it pulses at random. They move in a certain pattern.

There are two pics of them lit up, you can see in one the white RAM LED was actually faded out a bit. That's pretty much the animation :P

I've taken videos of LED (i.e. Christmas lights), where the LEDs seem solid to the eye, blink wildly in the video. Great great build and presentation. Thanks.

Waiting for the 1180Ti, at $8k, a GPU upgrade isn't much, just isn't worth to upgrade just before 1180 as I don't really game as per the description :)

I switched from a three screen set up (5760x1080) and honestly it's a pretty nice jump. The refresh rate bump and the better resolution, on top of the ultrawide aspect ratio allows a lot more content to be seen on the screen at the same time. Color accuracy is pretty good too, with the antiglare layer on top.

Surprisingly yeah, the ambient temperature as listed above roughly equates to my CPU being roughly the same as when it was on the View 71 TG case.

I will assume that u r using cam software for your rgb, can the cam software change rgb lighting to non-NZXT parts or just to the nzxt parts? Pc looks lit, thanks

Great build, but I'm worried about your NVME drive. There is a little standoff screw that fits in BEFORE you screw down the NVME. That way is not off at an angle, it should be leveled. Check out picture number 4.

970 PRO is pretty good but nothing too special. I was running my 960s on RAID0 and that was pretty fast back then (still is, so I'm using it as a scratch drive occassionally)

The new keyboard is pretty responsive compared to my old Blackwidow Chroma TE, but if you're looking for quietness, don't get the Huntsman Elite. It's overall a very high quality keyboard with an aluminium base, which I love.

The speakers are eh, get's the job done. Better than the ones that come with the monitor.

Finally, the case was a pleasure to work with. As everything from this case was an improvement over the S340e, even the power button/LED/HDD indicator comes in one single plug instead of + and -'ve plugs being separate. For moving the cable hiding bar, it was pretty easy, just make sure you use the proper head on the screwdriver due to it screwed on pretty strong.
