Description

Hi everybody,

After having so much fun building my own rig last year (https://pcpartpicker.com/b/r6mqqs) I almost wanted to build a second PC just for the hell of it. But since I have no use for a second computer, that would be silly. So when a friend of mine mentioned he was looking to buy a new PC, I happily offered to find the components and build it for him. He uses his computer mainly for Excel and gaming, so I decided to focus only on the gaming part. He wanted to spend around a $1000, so the challenge was to get the absolute most performance out of this budget. I am happy how it turned out. It's quite a beast without taking too many hits in the aesthetics department.

I went for a i5-9400F & RTX 2060. This was the beefiest GPU I could find for this money where I didn't have to cheap out too much on other parts. The B360M-A motherboard doesn't have a lot of features, but does the job fine.

The Fractal Design Meshify C Mini case is super easy to work with. Lots of space for cable managment. My only issue is the front panel feels like it could break if you open it too often. A bit flimsy. But looks great and loads of airflow!

I ran Apex Legends connected to my Alienware AW3418DW ultrawide. At 3440x1440p with max settings I got around 80 fps. My friend has a 1080p ultrawide, so he should be absolutely fine.

Please let me know what you guys think of the build!

Cheers,

Bert

Where did you get that 9400F for so cheap?

I'm in the Netherlands, so it was actually a bit more expensive. I didn't match the prices on pcpartpicker really. It was actually more around $200.

Just a question - when you put the 9400f and the B360M together it says there may be a BIOS warning? Did you get that / how did you overcome it?

Yes, I had the same warning. I asked the store where I bought the board to update it for me.

Nice shots! It's nice to see a classic black build, looks great. That cooler has to be overkill on a 9400 but who cares! Very classy, well designed aesthetics.

Hey, I am buying the system power 9 for my first build, is it still holding up for you, and was there anything hard to handle with it?
