This will be a gaming rig. I held off on the video card until I could measure to see what will really fit (and I save up some more money.) A GTX 970 is the plan. Maybe I can find a shorter PSU so I can use a video card longer than 170mm.
I wanted to go with a 6600K and a z170 motherboard but for the extra $130 at the time I decided it wasn't right for this build. I want to keep it lower power to keep the heat low in this little case. I do wish I had spent the extra $30 on a Z motherboard so I could overclock the RAM. I'll try tighter timings. I'm going to get a better HSF anyway.
I like this case but cable management is a nightmare, even with a modular PSU. I'm going to have to work on it.
I got the Zotac 970 because it was less money even with buying a small PSU so it would fit. (Jet.com 20% off deal.)
I also went ahead and bought Windows 10. Installing Windows 7 was a major pain and it never would update to SP1. I tried twice and it failed at 11% both times so a gave up and just installed 10 without a key.
I'm also going to install my old hard drive.
The memory works at 1T 12-13-13-33 2133mhz. I haven't benched it but I hope low latency has the same effect on skylake performance as faster memory speed seems too..
Have all the parts now. The small PSU makes working in the case better (at least there is space for extra wire now.) I wish it was a quiet. It is untill windows loads. Windows 10 idles at 45% cpu usage (I wonders what it's up too?)
The GTX 970 is about 10 times better than Intel 530.
I bought this because it is the most powerful card that would fit in my case and within my budget. It does not disappoint. Ultra at 1080p and I can't hear it over my PSU.
