Description

Steam and Origin Gaming PC with a little programming and video work thrown in.

YouTube Video of the PC

YouTube Video of the Avexir Raiden Memory in action - Love those plasma tubes.

UPDATE: After many of the comments, I re-evaluated my input peripherals' color scheme and swapped out the Logitech 602 for a White Razer Taipan, and the Microsoft Sculpt for a Vortex KBC POK3R - White Case - PBT Keycaps - Cherry Mx-Clear [Metal Casing].

I updated some of the photos above to reflect the new input peripherals.

You should do 4k gaming..

  • 2 points

I could... but I prefer the buttery smooth framerate of GSYNC using a 144hz capable display than the raw resolution. When they build 4k displays that can hit that high a refresh, I'll get one.

Just wish they had more lighted DDR4 available in the US. Can't find any outside of their product pages. Just DDR3 on retailers/distributors sites.

For a second I thought this was a custom water loop, then realised it was an AIO and two hybrids haha.

Pretty darn slick. +1

Any reason you didn't go for a custom loop?

  • 3 points

Got the cpu cooler and the hybrids at different times. Good enough performance and a mix of laziness (no maintenance) and inertia sealed the deal.

  • 1 point

Woooo! Inertia! had to google that one but gosh darn if it doesn't describe me perfectly.

Yeah your GPU temps are pretty sweet, what are your MOBO temps/internal case temps?

Highest mobo temp is usually below 50C but CPU can hit 60+C

Does it go a stable 60 FPS in 4k gaming?

Probably. Wouldnt know since I'm using a 1440 144hz gsync monitor. But at 1440 its often hovering between 80-144fps depending on the game.

This one has nothing to do with India. "Shiva" is a name used in the Japanese Final Fantasy games for an Ice Goddess summon, and in Jewish lore for a seven day mourning period, as well as the Indian red destroyer god. So three separate meanings from three different cultures that have nothing to do with each other. In this case it's the Japanese gaming related one.

It looks amazing all around. Looks well built and seems like a lot of thought went in to it.

However, as a "Featured Build" I expected to see way more of a description and product review. Thoughts behind your build, etc. So much awesomeness, so little explanation.

  • 2 points

Thanks, I'll probably add some more description/thoughts after the Thanksgiving holiday. Not much of a writer and wasn't planning for this to be a "Featured Build". Especially since this wasn't an "all-at-once" build and is just how my system evolved over time. I just wanted to document what my current setup has.

  • 1 point

Understandable, more or less curious about your experiences with the hardware. A lot of people on PCPP look at these builds as inspiration for their own. So its good to give a little feedback with the things you liked, things you didn't like. Things you would of done different, areas you had a little trouble with, etc. Thanks for considering it!

  • 1 point

SLI 980 TIs on a 1440p monitor? :p

  • 1 point

Yup... 1440p at 144hz GSYNC (and staying at high framerates depending on game) beats 4k at 60hz/60fps. If they had ultrawide 4k displays with 144hz and higher GSYNC, I'd jump on that, but they don't.

Which chair? I have two in the photos.

The regular gaming chair: http://amzn.to/1lLx4Lr

And the Flight Chair setup: It's a combo of this chair with these arm attachments minus the keyboard tray and industrial velcro for the X-52 HOTAS.

Wow, thanks so much for the links, it really helped me , Your BattleStation has been my wallpaper since you built it :) ... Thumbs Up brother

  • 1 point

Nice :)

One thing I would never do...

Is have a computer on the floor, too much dust and stuff down there.

Every computer I've had has been on a table or something, never on the floor,I care about my computers too much.

Especially a $6000 computer like yours.

  • 1 point

Dust filters... plus a plastic floor mat, takes care of all that. There's just as much dust on table tops as there are on regularly cleaned floors. Dust doesn't magically avoid table/desktops.

Besides, a Full Tower case like this on a desktop is a no-go.

  • 1 point

I have it on a Desktop and its doing fine, why no go?

I understand "Dust doesn't magically avoid table/desktops" but through experience when you have your tower on the floor the dust seems worse.

  • 2 points

And 30 years experience says otherwise... depends on the surfaces and how often you clean.

  • 1 point

Hello. That's some fantastic work. I am putting together an LGA1151/DDR4 build and have been very inspired by this. If it's not too much trouble, could you please explain the fan layout / which fans went where? Which direction the air is flowing etc. Thank you.

  • 1 point

All radiators are push/pull setups (one large 4xfan radiator at the top and 2x2 fan radiators for the EVGA Hybrids up front) with one additional auxilliary fan below the two front fans, two fans on the bottom of the case, and one more exhausting out the back near the CPU.

Front and Bottom are Intakes while Back and Top are Exhaust.

Yeah, i mounted them to the other office chair before i got the nicer one. Too lazy to migrate them over ;)

  • 1 point

Very clean setup and color scheme. Sexy PC, too. And the chair, what a nice touch.

Although I'm surprised to see such good audio equipment paired with those terrible Harman Kardon Soundsticks. Mine broke after less than a year. I replaced them with some good bookshelf speakers and you wouldn't believe the difference it makes.

  • 1 point

The newer HK Soundsticks 3 are crappy, but these are the much older HK soundsticks that have lived through 3 Macs and two PC generations and still sound great.

It's $121.99 right now on Amazon so less than half your budget.

  • 1 point

Thanks. Is it comfy?

For a very cheap chair... it's comfy. Best to ignore the speakers embedded in the headrest though, not worth it to set it up.

  • 1 point

What chair is that?

  • 1 point

could I ask the benifit of liquid cooling. I have a hyper 212 EVO on my 4790k running at stock speeds and my temps are 30 at idle and 65 under max load, I've seen it go to 69 but I wouldn't spend $110 to save 3 degrees.

  • 1 point

There's also the benefit of quiet compared to aircooled CPU and GPUs.

  • 1 point

But is that even honestly worth an additional $70+? I mean my 212 Evo with with 2 fans on it isn't even loud, audible yes but not loud. I'd expect better and lower temps for so much more money

  • 1 point

How quickly does the temp drop back down to the 30's after gaming or load stops on the 212 EVO? On H20 mine goes back to around 32 within a few seconds. It's not just peak temp, but how long it takes to drop temps too.

  • 1 point

Sorry, read over my comment again, afraid it sounded kind of douchy (which wasn't the intent) my temps peak around 55 c under an intense gaming load and when I'm done they drop to the low 40's to high 30's within a few seconds and after about a minute or 2 they drop back down to 30-35. I've got a temporary solution to liquid, if I have my window open to my room my temps drop about 5-10 degrees. I've gotten idle as low as 19 before.

  • 1 point

No prob... Didn't take it harshly anyway ;) Many of my systems are aircooled and this is one of my first with All-in-one liquid cooling. Back in the stoneage, I used to use peltiers and foam padding around old Slot1 Pentiums, so there's less necessity in my builds than just experimentation and liking how things work/look. Only ones I haven't tried yet are full mineral oil immersion and LN2.

What did you put around those tubes? Looks awesome coiled up like that.

Look for UV Reactive coils from Amazon or http://www.performance-pcs.com/ . They come in various colors and widths.

  • 1 point

This is a beautiful build with some amazing parts in there. Really pretty to look at. I like it a lot.

  • 1 point

I love your build beyond words. The white / blue color scheme with the UV lighting is surreal.

I am currently working on a build with a EVGA GeForce GTX 980 ti hybrid in a Corsair 780T case and I am going with a pull/push configuration much like you have.

Where did you get that chair?

  • 1 point

Amazon... foot broke a month ago so went with a different white one also from Amazon.

  • 1 point

If you are still monitoring this.... Would you still use this case? I'm about to do my first build on a 3.5k dollar system using just one GPU (1080). I know the case is huge and has 5.25 front bays that will be empty. Would you recommend a different case? I'm about to go with this case.

  • 1 point

I'd still go with this case... love it.

Only reason I would go with another case is if I wanted tempered glass instead of a plastic window.

Oh please tell me you're gonna stick the new NZXT Hue+ in that case instead of that catatode.

  • 1 point

Why? The NZXT Hue+ doesn't do UV Lighting. The Cathode UV's are brighter against neon paint and neon plastic than LED's (which I've tried before in UV). So how would the NZXT Hue+ be any better for this application if I'm trying to do glowing neon stuff?

IIRC Shiva is the Hindu destroyer god. I also have a good friend who is named Shiva. He's not a small guy.

  • 4 points

Actually Shiva has three totally separate meanings (four if you count your large friend).

"Shiva" is a name used in the Japanese Final Fantasy games for an Ice Goddess Summon, in Jewish lore for a seven day mourning period, and in India for the red destroyer god. So three separate meanings from three different cultures that have nothing to do with each other.

  • 1 point

In fact FF's Shiva is inspired by the Hindu lord Shiva. Also Shiva is no "red destroyer god", there is no such stupid thing in Hindusim. He is comparable to Zeus in Greek mythology and Odin in the nordic. You should look into more sources than just wikipedia. Nevertheless nice battlestation.

Although he is considered the destroyer god, and Sivan is "The Red One" in Tamil so whatevs.

Though gaming is the primary focus here, I do other stuff (development and video work). Plus, it wouldn't look right to have empty slots with those Avexir Raiden sticks... you just HAVE to fill them up. Gotta love those plasma tubes. Here they are in action: https://youtu.be/gDpvTyIdi9Q

As for Skylake, parts of this system predate Skylake's release, and it hasn't had a big enough perf jump to warrant a CPU/Mobo/Mem swap...yet.

To be fair, ability to play it on low settings is one thing, but playing at 1440 or 4k resolution at Ultra everything settings including supersampling textures is another.

Then again, no matter how beautiful it is, SW:Battlefront isn't as hard on memory usage as some other less efficiently coded games out there.

  • 2 points

Battlefront is really optimized. Pretty surprising honestly. Playing Ultra 1080p with my 960 at 55-65fps. RAM usage never went past 3gb.

Yeah, DICE know what they're doing in terms of visuals and pure efficient coding... wish Rocksteady could learn from them.
