Description

Hey guys, this is my third build since last September.... Yea I have been bitten by the FPS bug. So for a little backstory. In November I build a dedicated gaming rig, my first true gaming rig because I was on the fence about getting one of the new gen consoles and wanted to test the waters of pc gaming, it took a little getting use to but after a few weeks, I decided that I love it! So the prior system was nothing bad ( fx6300 paired with a GTX 760 HAWK) but I wanted more. So after weeks of planning and scouring Tom's Hardware and PC Part Picker forums and asking for input on both this is the final product. I still have a couple of odds and ins to get to make it perfect (IE backplates for the GPUs and sleeved cables), but until then it is awesome. There were a couple of problems during the build: 1. I had a problem with the motherboard crapped out on me, it just randomly stopped sending video output to my two GPUs, and the onboard video, so i had to RMA 2. I am having a problem with the H100i now that i got the motherboard back, but i think in my haste to get the system up and running I turned the backplate the wrong way going to do a little more troubleshooting on it tonight. That's about it really, let me know what yall think, and i know that the cable management could be better, I am getting sleeved cables soon and didn't spend a lot of time on it.

Update: Added two Asus 22" Monitors for surround, and a PowerA Tournament Xbox 360 Controller.

Update 4/24/14: Finally got around to running some benches,

Where did you get those case fans? I've been looking for some green-trimmed Corsair case fans but I can't find them.

Yea I took a can of Pearl Green Testors model paint to the removable rings. I got it at Hobby Lobby.

If you buy more of that Vengeance Pro, you can remove the silver accented bar and spray that too and put it back on. Just a thought ;) Nice build :)

As I have commented on previous builds, I love green things in computers. This looks absolutely AMAZING. Awesome color scheme, great high end parts list too. +1 all day.

Nice colors, why not change the stock intake/exhaust fans to match? And then there's that yellow PSU...

They are on order as we speak actually, and I have had the thought to mask off the label on the PSU.

cut some sheet metal and glue it over the PSU.. Just an Idea, best build I've seen in weeks, why not an i7? +1

It is a gaming rig, I wouldn't gain anything from hyperthreading, so there was no need for the added cost.

do you think that i should go for that i5 or an i7 4770k. i have a gtx 760 2gb

  • 2 points

i5. I have an i7 3820 in my gaming build with a 670 and regret it.

  • 1 point

I5 if it is for gaming you won't benefit from the I7's hyperthreading. That is why i didn't go with the I7 4770K.

Great build +1. But i would have gone with the reference gtx 780 cooler they would have look so good with the green colour scheme imo.

Yea you are right, but I liked the Superclocked cards better for the base clock speed.

Hey how does the fan controller look with the case? I wanna get it but I'm afraid that it will totally throw everything off . Also how does it run. Great build by the way.

Well with all three 5.25" bays taken up no too bad i need to take some more pictures since i'm running a surround setup now.

What types of fans are those that you have? the ones painted with the green rim?

  • 1 point

They are the SP120 performance editions form corsair. I just painted the white removable rims with some Testors green metallic model car paint.

Meh...the first one I had to RMA bc the PCI lanes just randomly stopped working, but i haven't had any problems with the new board.

So two 780's can run triple monitors?

Where did you get your cables?

  • 1 point

You run two via DVI and one with a DVI to display adaptor.

  • 1 point

so you went all out on gpu power but didnt get more than 8gb of ram? why?

Hey man, I'm working on something similar to this, could you point me in the direction of where you bought your sleeved cables from? I've been looking all over. Great job btw.

  • 1 point

Yea, man they are Corsair branded sleeved cables.

  • 1 point

I'm a total noob and this is my first build? Could you direct me to the ones I need to buy for my build? I have no idea which cables I'd need to buy to stick with the color theme, if you had a link or something, that would be amazing.

  • 1 point

Yea, man no problem, if you will post your PCPP build link on here I'll add them to it for you.

Ok man I made a couple of changes:

1: I added a SSD 120G, its 80$ and you will love the added speed for a boot drive and you can put a few programs/games on it also.

2: I changed out the PSU you had for two reasons, 1 the CX series of capacitors are for lack of a better term ****, and 2, you cant get a 24 pin sleeved cable for them.

3.I added the sleeved cable kit and 24 pin cable.

Also, if you would like to give me your max budget i can try to pull a little more performance out for you. Just let me know.

Hey guys, i am just about to finish my build but i have some doubts about it. You can see them in the build notes. ty

Nice cable management. It was in another build where this guy had an i7-4960X with 2-way SLI 780 Ti's in a 750D, and he had a huge rats nest of cables, and you commented saying you thought your cable management was bad so I took a look for myself, and honestly, I don't see it. Amazing cable management +1 Also how do you do cable management, idk but I have the impression that it is difficult and takes hours upon hours, but other people say it's easy. So is it hard or easy? (The PC I wanna build http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ztv33C :) )

  • 1 point

My initial cable management was a mess, I deleted those pics LOL. It took me a good 2-2.5 hours to bet mine where you see it now. As for how to do it, it really depends on the case, but I always try to route the cables around the perimeter of the case.

  • 1 point

What are you planning to use your build for, and what is your budget?

  • 1 point

Budget isnt' a problem. The CPU is for rendering and basically everything you can think of CPU intensive. I'm the jack of all trades, you name it I do it. That's why I have the 6-core. As for the 2 980s I would like to just dominate games on ultra @ 4K and although the 970s are great, they quite can't run games like bf4 and far cry 4 on ultra @ 4K. Plus the 980s will help with certain programs. And my color scheme is black/white/silver. That's basically all I can tell. To get more specific I do video and photo editing. Not only that but that mainly.

You get a +1 just for that gamepad bro! ;) I have the same one and there are no better joysticks with that kind of precision on the market at all that eveb hold a candle to it.

I'm gonna build a pc with the same monitor and storage... ILLUMINATI CONFIRM!

Why would you put an i5 in a build like that? I would expect you to go with an 17 if you're going to be putting that much money out on the rest of the build.

  • 1 point

It's a gaming rig I wouldn't benefit for the i7's hyperthreading. Couldn't justify the added expense.

  • 1 point

If you're running Dota 2 or LoL or WOW while skyping with your friends it could have made the process more smooth. There's many scenarios whee you could have benefited from it. But I guess I do understand you not wanting to throw out an extra 100 dollars just to run skype more smooth
