Description

Built to hold my collection of movies, pictures and music using FreeNAS. Though now that I have the space, I've put a lot more on it than just that. I've used 8 2TB drives to end up with a total of 10.2TB of usable storage space. Some of these are refurbished drives. Because I like to live dangerously. This is actually a redundant backup so everything on it is also save elsewhere. So I'm not too worried.

I know AMD hardware is not recommended for use with FreeNAS. Got it. But it works just fine for what I am doing with it. FreeNAS has far more functionality than I will ever need.,

The only piece of hardware I was impressed with here was the Fractal Design R4. It's a great case especially for this build. There is plenty of room behind the drive bays for cables and the sound dampening works well.

I had most of the drives left over from previous builds. All are listed as HGST but there is at least one Seagate and, I think, 2 WD drives. The CPU was a leftover as well as the power supply, RAM and Corsair fans. And yes, the power supply is overkill for this build.

The Cooler Master Hyper T4 isn't quite enough for the A10 processor. Through the BIOS, I've set the processor at 65W and that seems fine. At 95W it idles in the Bios around 50C. At 65W, around 35C.

I briefly attempted some cable management. You guys that are making it look good with semi-modular or non-modular power supplies, you are the real heroes on this site. Keep it up.

I've included a blurry picture of the dog photobombing me.

Did you have to update the BIOS to be able to run your apu? I'm asking because I am building a PC with an AMD a10 7870k and have gotten 2 motherboards that had an incompatible chip set.

I didn't have to update my bios. It's been in 3 different motherboards and I haven't had to. Yours is a newer processor but it has been out for a while now. So I don't think you should be having a huge issue. What motherboards have you tried?
