Description

The setup is finally done - and so is my wallet!

TLDR: Everything went great, maybe a few things I would like to change down the line, but she runs like a beast.

I started purchasing parts for my new machine during Black Friday sales and my parents picked up a couple things for me for Christmas - the graphics card, processor, and power supply, as well as my new keyboard and mousepad. I just finally got my hands on the monitor this morning and the difference 144hz makes over the old scepter I used to play on is unbelievable.

This computer is - quite obviously - going to be used for gaming. Though my old 970 still fairs me well is many 2018 titles there was definitely a few that were glaring for an upgrade. Though the new RTX cards are very overpriced and pointless I am very thankful of my mom and dad who somehow new what to get, and I'm not gonna lie, the MSI card is sexy as hell. So far it is doing me good, sitting around 250-270 fps on my preferred settings in Fortnite at 1440p though i have yet to test battlefield and blackout.

If I could change a few things or have done them differently I would potentially grab a bigger ssd, though 120gb is plenty for a boot drive. Down the line I will hopefully grab some custom sleeved cables and make it look fancy inside the case as well as grabbing a couple Corsair RGB fans for the radiator (I though the black NZXT fans would look terrible but you can't even see them).

Part Reviews

CPU

Simple Intel i5. Runs fast and runs well. Great value for price.

CPU Cooler

Super simple installation, especially after installing a hyper 212 on a friend's PC. Keeps CPU in low 30's at idle and is silent as can be.

Motherboard

Great MOBO with easy overclocking. Looks great too and has amazing on board wifi in comparison to my old TP-Link Archer T9E. Used in a similar build for a friend and when rearranging cables the plastic ring around the usb 3.0 header came off. Still works fine, however.

Memory

Best looking RAM on the market - if you're into RGB shenanigans.

Storage

Fast, cheap, simple boot drive.

Storage

Classic WD quality. Great, cheap storage drive.

Video Card

Monster of a card with nice RGB effects. Probably the nicest 2070 you can buy right now in terms of looks and performance. Only lost a star for the hefty price tag.

Case

Super easy to build in. A little tight for cable management. Finicky but good-looking psu shroud.

Monitor

Amazing budget monitor. Absolutely no complaints - especially for the price.

Keyboard

Actuation on the Romer-G Tactile switches feels a little different at first but is very quiet compared to my old Razer greens. I feel faster and more confident with my presses after taking time to adapt.

Headphones

Most slept-on headset of 2018. More than happy with my purchase. Software lets you choose the sound, not he manufacturer. RGB is an added bonus for those of you nerds. This is my first time having surround sound and i have to say it's quite amazing. The sheer clarity of the mic and drivers is awesome too.

Custom

Hard to see lights in day time but look great at night. I would recommend any qck model to anybody. Simply a great mousepad with plenty of real-estate.

Borealis? At this time of year? At this time of day? In this part of the country? Localized entirely within your room?
