Description

I've been meditating for a while on this thought of building a PC for myself. I have a really small room with a small desk so I've been going back and forward on this thought. Finally, in about 4-5 months of savings, I decided to go ahead and build a PC.

I have never done this before, so I didn't know how to start all this epic journey of custom PC building. I start searching on youtube and I came across Bitwit and JayzTwoCents and, I have to say that those guys helped me a lot.

After intense researching and compatibility checks I was finally ready, so, I ordered everything and when all the parts came home I started to build.

I used to game before, but I am not doing that anymore. I am focused now on content creation, website management and stuff like that.

I wanted to build something that is not so flashy, not so full of RGB (I've found out that is really hard to do that these days), I wanted something that is not too big, not too small, with above average specs. I had this mentality in my head: "If I'm building it, I should build something that is good quality and that will be relevant in the next few years of technology evolution".

I decided to go with the good, old Intel so I chose the i7-8700K because I simply wanted the latest CPU, then, I chose the ASRock - Z370 Extreme4 because it had a good price, good reviews and not so much RGB. I chose the Fractal Design - Meshify C because it has a really good airflow, and is a quite compact case(and even looks quite good, which is a nice bonus). I really wanted to buy a AIO CPU cooler so I don't have to worry about RAM clearance and after I checked the case I found out that I don't have that much space so I decided to go with a 120 mm AIO cooler, that I decided to mount it in front of the case as an intake fan in the upper side so I don't have to worry about clearances with the GPU that I planned to buy. I chose Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB because It had really good reviews, the size of the sticks was not that bulky and they don't have RGB. I chose the 1TB ssd because I wanted a really fast machine and 1 TB is enough for what I do. I decided to go with EVGA GTX 1080 Ti as a video card because is really good for video editing and it gives me such a nice experience overall. The SuperNova G3 PSU is probably more that I need but I wanted a really good and quiet PSU and this PSU was perfect for me.

The monitor is amazing. I really wanted to try a curved monitor so I went with Samsung - LC24FG73 23.5" because I didn't want an ultra wide monitor. This one is the perfect size for my needs, and it's just great. I chose the keyboard because I wanted to try a mechanical one and this one had a quite decent price and seemed not to big, not too small. Now I'm typing on it and I couldn't be happier about my choice. I bought some fans as well, for a good airflow in my case. I decided to go with be quiet because I wanted a silent machine (as much as it could be).

It took me a while to put it all together, but fortunately everything went according to plan. I really recommend a long, magnetic screwdriver, by the way. I've built it as tidy as I could with the space I had. I liked building in that case. I did some cable management as well (as good as I could).

I was so scared when I pushed that power button, but when I saw that everything works perfect I felt this feeling of intense satisfaction. Oh my that felt so good! One of the best feelings I have experienced. Now I am using the PC every day and I could not be happier about it and about what I've built.

I'm not so experienced with writing stuff like this, but I've tried. English is not my native language, as well, so please excuse my mistakes.

Part Reviews

CPU

It is powerful and really fast! Love it!

CPU Cooler

Even if it is 120mm, this cooler is so powerful! Keeps the CPU cool. You have to be careful when you install it and it is a bit bulky, but for me it is exactly what I need!

Motherboard

Really good motherboard at a good price. It has everything I need!

Memory

Fast, looks good and with a low profile. Perfect for me!

Storage

Very fast boot, and everything I do it's just so much faster. It has a good price as well.

Video Card

This GPU is simply a beast! It's quite heavy, long, but it has a nice cooling system that keeps the temps low and it is quiet as well. Runs everything with no problems at all!

Case

This case has an extremely good airflow. Keeps everything inside cool. It looks really good and it's so nice and easy to built in it.

Case Fan

Good cooling capabilities and quiet, at a really good price.

Monitor

This monitor is really good! Nothing to complain about it!

Keyboard

Delightful mechanical keyboard! It's so nice to type on this and it's not that loud as well. Highly recommend!

What is your peak temperature on the CPU while under load?

I stressed the CPU for 30 minutes under heavy load, overclocked at 4.7GHz and the peak temperature was 78 degrees Celsius. The average temperature was around 75-76 degrees Celsius.
