Description

I really just went more for aesthetics with some decent performance on this build. And seeing that the format was green, I was really limited MB wise. With a sea of Red Motherboards, the Gigabyte G1 Sniper B7 fit the bill. It's only a B150 chipset hence the Non-K processer. But all in all, I love the way this rig turned out...

I absolutely love your build. I wish that motherboard was a z170. Gigabyte did itself a diservice not making it readily available. Black and green has always had a special place with me. Mad props.

Thanks, they did make a Z170 G1 Sniper board in Black and Green as well. But they must have only made like 5 of them cause I can't find them anywhere....

That's pretty sweet man. I like the setup, I want to go with a green theme on my build that I'm doing in a few months too. Did you put an LED strip under your case? That's what I plan on doing.

Thanks! The NZXT Razer edition cases come with the under glow lights already on them. I was going to go with the Phanteks ECLIPSE P400 for the RGB, but the smaller dust filters scared me away. Good luck with your build!

They did in fact make them. But are a rare find, I was even ready to pay the extra shipping If I could find one over seas when putting this rig together. But on back-order even on UK sites... http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5564#ov

How was it getting the 950 Pro M.2 drive to work? Do you have your OS on it? Was it worth the hefty price tag? I've been thinking about getting one for my next build instead of a normal SSD.

  • 1 point

For sure my OS is on there and it's blazing fast compared to my old SSD, I use a WD Blue 1tb for game storage etc. But now if they would have had a Black PCB on their Samsung 850 EVO M.2 SATA III, I may have gone that direction to save some cash. But in the end, It was worth the price to me just to have such a fast drive and fewer cables to hide. And did I mention Black PCB lol

I plan on upgrading my PC over the summer, I have an SSD on my parts list right now but M.2 seems awesome and will match perfectly with the aesthetic of the upcoming PC . Was it difficult getting your OS on the M.2 or did you just clone it over? I don't know how boot drives work, can you explain how you got your OS on the 950 Pro?

Just make sure you do your research on the motherboard and make sure it supports PCI-Express 3.0 x4 M.2 drives. Some motherboards only support SATA III M.2 drives and that's will cap your speed around 550-600MB/SEC.

I did a clean Install, Motherboard recognized the drive on boot and installed windows 10 from a USB drive. And after the install was complete I connected my 1TB WD Blue just to make sure windows didn't copy any files to it during the install. But all in all, I love M.2. Helps with wire management and make for a super clean setup!

Thank you for the info, I will hopefully grab a 950 Pro 256 GB for my new build this summer. Lets hope the install goes smoothly

How do you like the Mackie monitors?? Looking at getting some for the same color scheme in a Phanteks P400, with those fans as well.

  • 1 point

They sound great, excellent sound reproduction. And pretty much all the reviews on Amazon are on point. If anything they maybe could use a powered sub for the low end. But I am 100% happy with them.
Good luck with your build, Phanteks P400 is a sick case. I almost went with that case for this build.

How's the gaming performance with the i7 6700?

  • 1 point

It's an I7, Could have easily went with an I5 for gaming. Most games are going to be more dependent on the video card anyway. But it's more than enuff for gaming.

I just went with the I7 cause I may want to dabble with a little video editing down the road.

Man I'm loving the black and green. I've got the same color scheme in a Corsair 450D with a GTX 960 100ME from MSI. I just got myself a Hue+ and I'm going to be getting an NZXT Kraken x61 so it's time to light this baby up! Nice job!

Thanks man, make sure to snap some pics of your Rig and post them up when it's done! Love the black and green builds. Just too easy to go with red, blue or white build nowadays. I like to think green takes a little bit of creativity lol....

Nice build :) I have been debating on getting this motherboard or the MSI h110 gaming. How does your motherboard preform? I won't overclock but it has the right amount of fan headers.

It's been a great board overall. It can be a little picky when you swap hardware, recently upgraded to Strix 1070 OC card and had to clear the CMOS in order to boot. Same thing happened when I added another drive. Other than that no complaints. Great board, mostly went with it for aesthetics though...
