Description

After having a tough year of constantly pulling overtime and devoting my life to a terrible job I am celebrating a new 9-5 Monday-Friday job by Investing in a good way to spend my newfound free time. This is my second PC build ever and my first that had an actual theme. I am so happy with how this turned out, I have been saving and planning for 6 months and I got exactly what I wanted. No regrets!

P.S. Thank you so much to this community, I have spent so many hours on this website comparing pictures and parts making sure everything was perfect, and it turned out exactly how I pictured it! I am hoping my build can help someone out like some others have helped me :)

Also, I plan on posting a parts review and more hopefully non potato quality pictures but I just finished building last night and will need a little more time to test things out

Part Reviews

CPU

For high frame rate 1440p and (some 4k) gaming it pretty much came down to this or the 9900k, Since I will be gaming more than anything else the performance gains of the 9900k wasn't worth the extra cost. So far I haven't been even remotely disappointed, it should be able hold its own for the next 5+ years no problem.

CPU Cooler

What can I say, it cools great and it looks great. You could get the same performance and noise for much cheaper but this is a cooler you buy for the looks! My only complaint is that the USB cable to control it and fan interface stick right out of the top and left upper side and are a little annoying looking, but its manageable and you don't notice it unless you are looking for it most of the time.

Motherboard

I'm not going to lie, I bought this specifically because of the color. ASUS is a great motherboard manufacturer with a great BIOS and I am not disappointing with the features I get for the price. I haven't tried overclocking yet so I cant speak for that, I have seen mixed reviews but from what I have read if I hit the silicone lottery with my CPU I should be able to get 4.9-5 GHz on all cores. Will update when I know.

Memory

I am a huge fan of corsair RAM! This is another one of those parts I could have gotten way cheaper but I like the pretty colors.

Storage

One of the most essential parts of the system in my opinion. My Samsung 840 EVO could boot to windows desktop in about 10 seconds, this thing can do it in about 3.5 seconds. NVMe SSD's are insanely fast, I wish I could give it 6 stars

Video Card

I wanted the best card I could get without breaking my $2000 total limit, I was originally looking at the RTX 2070 but I wanted a little bit more performance and I didn't really feel the need to jump on the ray tracing bandwagon until they have something really impressive. I was convinced to look at the used market by a friend and I am so glad that I did, this thing is a beast! I went for an EVGA card because they offer a secondhand warranty for the duration of the original manufacturers warranty.

Custom

These sleeves look REALLY nice, I would recommend them to anybody with this cooler that is doing a white theme, that being said the clips used to cover the ends and hold the sleeves on are extremely difficult to put on. It took me close to an hour just to make them look good, I feel like they could have been engineered so much better.

Congrats on the new job. I love the aesthetic of the PC. Just wondering, where did you get your 1080 ti? I assume for that price it was from eBay. I am thinking of buying my gpu off of eBay also.

Yeah, I got it off eBay shortly after Bitcoin crashed and a bunch of miners were trying to make something back on their investments. I went with EVGA specifically because they offer a second hand manufacturers warranty as long as you can provide proof of purchase from the original owner and register it on their website.

Like your build was wondering about its performance about if it will truly equal the performance of a rtx 2080 planning for a build myself. 1+

I don't have a RTX 2080 to compare it too but it suits my needs more than enough. I am excited about the direction they are taking with real time ray tracing, I believe it will be the technology needed to get past the restrictions rasterization based rendering has. That being said, I would rather invest in the technology once they have perfected it a little better!

Thanks! As a native Minnesotan I thought the name suited the time of year pretty decently :)

Such a clean and asthetically pleasing build. Love black/white color schemes. The parts speak for themselves obviously. Congrats on the job! Edit: My one and only suggestion would be to replace the exhaust with a ring LED fan, because solid white LEDs just give Black/white builds that extra icy look. Just my personal taste though.

Thanks, I am so happy with how it turned out! I do plan on adding full RGB fans (that way I can change the color if I get bored with white or need more Christmas decorations) but I currently at the absolute max my budget would allow so they will have to be a future upgrade!

Love the build and congrats on the new job. What else do you think about the motherboard, as I plan to use it in my first build?

My only critique is that you get a pc stand, all that power in your pc can get absolutely ruined by dust and dirt collecting/collected on the carpet. Otherwise, amazing build!
