Description

Here is my build that has been updated 3 times now hence MKIII, However this is the only post on partpicker. (Will continue from here on out)

Managed to get this CPU Stable at 4.5Ghz on water, may be able to push it a little more but for my needs that is plenty. Both titan X's have a small overclock of 200Mhz on core clock and 100Mhz on the memory, Till they get a water block each this is also the only overclock they will get. When I do ill post MKIV (think it will be worthy of the next step as I am planning to do a dual loop including Mobo block.

Main uses for this system;

Gaming Streaming Editing (4K Photo and Video)

Fire strike Ultra: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/7540756
Fire strike Extreme: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/7540710
Fire strike: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/7540614

Window for those who are wondering is from MNPCTECH ordered from the US to the UK. Cost me a small fortune, but I think its worth it.

Both Titans have the lights modded by myself, green would not suit the build at all so took the chance and god did it pay off :) wet and dry sand paper for the win!

Any feedback on my build is appreciated! Feel free to leave a comment and all questions will be answered :)

Ok to answer some of the questions;

The photos with only one GPU were slightly older photos, there is no difference other than i stuck another one in :) i will get a few more added of the set up to date soon.

3 HDD seems a little weird i know, however some of these have a lot of work, videos, movies, etc etc. so as i have the space for them I still have them. there are 2 SSD's 1x 1Tb and 1x 3TB the right hand hard drive bays, the single 1TB Samsung is in the front hot swap bay, hence the reason for not being able to see it :)

2 SSD's question, 1 for windows and programs the other is for games i play the most. and the reason you cant see these is because they are in the normal bays the way the SSD's fit in this case, they sit right back on the removable trays, I assure they are there xD

This system is used for all sorts!, gaming, streaming (when I had the time) editing 4K photos and videos with photoshop, after effects ect.

Hope this was the answers you were looking for :)

I've got a coupe of questions.

  1. Why do you have only one GPU installed in pictures 1, 3, 5 and two in 6?
  2. What do you do with the 3 HDDs?
  3. Why do I see only 2 of them installed?
  4. Why do you have 2 SSDs?
  5. Why can't I see any? (As far as I see, it has no mount points for SSDs on the back side. Are they on the front/top 5.25" area?)

Also, just a general description, why you chose the parts and what your goal was with this build. I understand, this is an OP build for gaming and streaming. But some more details are always welcomed. :)

2 SSDs can be explained for RAID 0

I'm interested in the OP's ideas. I can make up things, but it's his build. :)

By the way RAID 0 for SSDs is kind of pointless. It gives the user higher fail rate and the speed gain wouldn't really be utilized. Plus 2 drives are more expensive than one with double the size. (At least at this capacity.)

I actually use RAID 0 in one of my home PC builds. I have never had a raid fail before (except a RAID 10 where 2 disks failed because of the manufacture :/ ) we actually needed the faster speed because that build is constantly going through data with virtual machines and other things. not really storage intensive but really needed the speed. the motherboard we have for it does not support m.2 (its an ITX board.) so that was the next best thing.

I didn't say RAID 0 will cause drive fails. :) I just said, it gives it a higher chance.

I understand RAID has it's usage. I want to have a RAID on my own as well. :)

Yet the OP has not replied to the questions yet...

No RAID 0, do not know enough about it to experiment. and if im honest any risk is still risk. wouldn't go for it, the reason for is one for OS and programs 1 for games I play the most.

I'm also curious about the GPUs, but everything else looks pretty good. Also, are you saving an SSD for Linux as a way to escape the tyranny of Windows 10!? lol.

When i have finally got everything in the right place yes ofc. however im sure i am not the only one with this problem, as soon as you think the set up is done, something else adds to the collection lol

Why would you go with a 4960X when a 5960X is better and $250 cheaper?

  • 1 point

At the time of purchase when this was just over £900 I managed to get this CPU for around £650 was very lucky. Plus the 5960x is for the X99 platform, not the X79 Chipset.

What is that plugged in-between those sexy GPU's?

AVerMedia Live Gamer HD C985

Worst purchase I have ever made, it has essentially just sat in my rig doing nothing. you cannot play on the native screen directly, you have to play your game through a AVerMedia window, therefore causing about a 1.5 second delay.. makes fps and fast pace games unplayable/recordable. going to take it out I think... defiantly overstayed its welcome...

Oh man, I use the Elgato HD60 Pro. The Pro model uses a PCI-E plug in (you can see it in my build if you want to look) and does the whole 'play through your PC' with minimal or no delay (I haven't noticed any). Works wonders, I really like it.

When I purchased the avermedia one the HD60 had not even been released! xD to be honest I dont stream much any more now, come to the realization its all or nothing, with a full time job you just cant put enough hours in, and stay married haha. Glad you found a good solution tho! personally if I were to start again, I would just use Xsplit. nobody streams over 1080p at present, a good CPU should be able to handle both comfortably.

  • 1 point

I feel you. Married with a full time job too. 90% of the time I only use the Elgato to record in 1080 @ 60fps for YouTube. Haven't gotten into the streaming scene yet.

Going to have a sort out this weekend, work on cable management, and some good photos on my A7Rii, as these iphone quickies do not do it justice at all. is there a way of letting you all know when I upload them for those who are interested? want me to make a MKIII.2 with a whole new list and photos or just add them to this?

May have just brought some white bitfenix cables, NZXT RGB kit (Mine was a makeshift kit) and 2x Samsung 850 evo 500GB SSD's whoops lol

can u link me the purple leds you are using?

I got these years ago for the back of a tv i was using there just standardized led strip (Tubes) and all I have done is feed the USB cable into the back of the PC case, by no means ideal.. like I said I have the NZXT RGB Kit coming tomorrow so the light in the case may go on the back of my monitors who knows :)

it is indeed, infact 2 of them, I cut one of them in half almost and moved them across and if it was not for a perfect fit against the wall I used (adds a lot of stability due to resting on the wall all 3 sides) I wouldnt say it is the most sturdy for carpet mate, need something with a bit more weight to it.
