Description

For the past 4+ years, I've been gaming on an ASUS ROG G75VW gaming laptop. This worked alright for a while, but in the last year or two it became more challenging to play newer games at high quality if I wanted a reasonable frame rate. After saving up some money, I finally decided it was time to upgrade. I've been wanting to do a custom build for a long time and I wanted to make my first build something special.

This machine is going to be primarily used for gaming, but I also will be using it as a multimedia server with the two 8 TB Western Digital Reds running RAID 1. I didn't list these in the build list because I got them for a really good price (about $130 each) over 6 months ago. These drives were removed from an old HP p6716f-b machine that I've been running as a file server using FreeNAS. I've setup Plex to stream my media files from these drives.

Part Reviews

Case

I picked up the Phanteks Enthoo Pro M case after watching tons of case reviews on YouTube, and I was not disappointed. Building in the case both enjoyable and easy. It has ample drive space for a medium case (which was a requirement for me), a slick black interior and exterior, velcro straps in the back for cable management, and a beautiful tempered glass side panel that allows you to see all the components clearly.

Keyboard

I got the version with the Cherry MX Red keys. The keyboard feels sturdy and the keys have a very nice tactile sound and feel. The RGB effects look good even if it doesn't sync with the other RGB components in my build (since this was the only Corsair component I bought).

Custom

The cooling itself works well, but the primary reason I chose this cooler above any others is for the RGB. It comes with a remote control, but more importantly, it syncs with the Aura software. If you're looking for maximum cooling performance, then this probably isn't the cooler you want, but if you're looking for cool RGB effects, then this cooler is really nice.

Perfect color scheme! Exactly what I got going in my own. I love every bit of it! And the case, too. Exceptionally great looking case for the price. Congrats, this is great!

Wow, 4700 Ghz. You sir won the highest world record OC.

Oh, that is definitely incorrect! LOL I haven't actually OC'd anything, but CAM is showing the CPU at 4.7 GHz.

Its because of your board having MCE enabled in the BIOS.

4700 Ghz? damn, that air cooler must be godly. did your CPU freeze over before you OCed? was 5ghz not enough?

Joking. Nice build! :)

Haha, that's a typo. Took me a second to see the issue after reading the comments.

Glad you like it!

Awesome build! Thinking of getting this case. My enthoo evolv atx is getting pretty hot with my strix 1080 ti. Btw what little stone lamp is that?

Glad you like it!

The lamp is a StarCraft II Protoss Pylon light/USB charger. I got it as a gift, but you can buy it at Amazon or GameStop. However, it's pretty cheap and mine's already having issues so I wouldn't recommend buying it.
