My Mom asked me to choose a computer to replace her tired and weak laptop! She wanted an IPS monitor with a monitor arm. This system will primarily be used to edit photos in Adobe Lightroom.
This was entirely her build, she put the whole thing together! So proud of her first build! I bought her some case fans as a present :)
All prices that I've quoted include the 5% gst. And we got everything but the arm locally, so no shipping/handling. Love shopping at MemoryExpress because of their price beat deals too.
Not a single issue after we figured out the order of those little the front panel wires.. Memory is running at 3200 after enabling profiles. Stable overclock of 3.75 on stock voltage.
We're yet to set the arm up, but will update this when we do!
EDIT: The monitor arm seems to work great! It's mounted on a wood post and connected to a thinner board which tucks under the couch for support. The trim along the wood post is a great finish!
Great CPU with lots of cores for multitasking work. I've used the 5 1600 too and these slightly updated chips are very impressive. The 5 2600 comes with a slightly smaller fan than the 5 1600 did.. hope it performs just as functionally.
When I buy a motherboard, I want the chipset to be as modern and fast at data transfer as possible without breaking bank. This board works great for most future-proofing, but I really wish it had USB Type-C gen2 port in the I/O. Still it has 2 USB Type-A gen2 ports which should be nice for data transfer in the future. Definitely needed 4 dimm slots for potential future upgrades. I wish the 2 sata lanes weren't blocked when using the M.2 connection. This board only has 2 fan headers and 1 cpu fan header... had to buy 2 splitters and that's using 2 140mm for the front case..
Cheap, fast ram - does what it needs too. Easily set xmp profile in BIOS and we're at 3200 no problems. I bought 16GB of 3000 in November of 2017 and paid $230! Glad the bitcoin boom has settled down.
It's fast, sure. But I haven't been blown away by the speeds. Windows still loads and Lightroom still opens in about the same time as my Samsung EVO 850. But the EVO is lightening. The NVMe must be greased lightening! Really don't like that it takes up 2 lanes on the chipset, it just bugs me haha.
Need need need the HDD to be 7200 RPM for retrieving files fast. This is really nice in Lightroom to load em pictures nice and fast. After being spoiled with SSDs I need to get the fast HDD
I've heard that the new Ryzen APUs have about the equivilent power as a 1030 2 GB. I didn't want to use the APUs because of the ram drain and I liked the increased cache in the 5 2600 over the APUs. But I still wanted to have a decent GPU and this one does it!
Impressively cheap case for what it delivers! It's remarkable easy to build in and has room for another HDD and SSD. Front panel is in a great place and I like the simple, clean look.
I took a star off because the top spot allows you to choose either a 120mm or 140mm but I couldn't mount a 140 because the holes were too close to the motherboard and the fan would hit the motherboard. I had to return it and get a 120mm to put in the top stop.
Great little PSU. Wish it were modular/semi modular just so there isn't a rats nest in the back.. but it's not bad and does the trick.. really good ratings on this guy
Wireless Network Adapter
Nice to have no wires running around the house and the bluetooth will be nice for pairing with devices. Works great!
Awesome monitor. I love IPS screens for editing photos. Beautiful colours!
Impressive battery life and range.
Not too bad - I wish there was a monitor arm that articulated more vertically and a bit longer. But this one comes suggested and highly-rated so we'll give it a try! Works great so far!
